Fun with the Italian Lost Adaptation volume #2
1. Blah. This morning I overslept and missed class. And then when I tried to recharge my phone it wasn't working (and hasn't been for two days). Then I found out it was the charger when I used my mother's. Arrgh, buying a new one is so not what I need. Anyway, at least it's working now. *phew*

2. I owe a shitload of comments/replies. Sorry for that, I'll try to get to them asap.

3. That said, I hope to be done with all the deadline fic in five days. *headdesk* It seems like the stuff I'm supposed to write won't work. *kicks self*

4. But, on to funnier things! Last Saturday I found out that my bookshop had a 20% discount on all the cds and dvds, which meant that I got the last Bon Jovi record, an old Nick Cave one, the Boston Greatest Hits and the DVDs for Lost S5 and I paid everything 30 euros less than it should have been in total. \o/ That said, I'm kind of surprised that in Europe we got the Lost dvds before America or so it seems, but if everyone remembers my post last year, this is the volume #2 of the crap whoever adapted it for Italian TV came up with. I'm sorry there are no gems like last year's 'Kate is a man' or 'Locke wants to leave the island', but there's some good stuff too.

So, on disc 1: Because You Left became The Absence And The Emptiness (????), The Lie became The Huge Lie (??), Jughead became The Bomb because people are apparently too stupid to get that it's a name. Then it says that Jack and Ben start searching in order to get the 6 back on the island when destiny calls. BZUH? It seemed to me that it was all Ben's doing. Disc 2: the titles are strangely all correct but I'd like to know what it means that Kate finds a solution on her own when the lawyer who wants to take Aaron from her doesn't say who his client is. Disc 3: 'from Kate's flashback, we understand that she visited THE friend who's also Sawyer's ex': sure, because EVERYONE will remember Cassidy if you phrase it like that. Disc 4: they say that Ben takes revenge on Widmore taking Penny as a target, which totally makes you think that he killed her. Not really. Also, Some Like It Hoth became The Father Who Wasn't There and while I do realize that you can't translate it... really? It's LAME. The Variable became Constants And Variables (????!!) and apparently we find out how it is that the conflict on the island has to do with Desmond. Er, it might be that I hated that episode and I don't have plans of watching it again anytime soon, but I don't remember them explaining a single thing about that? O_O Or maybe I'm wrong. Follow The Leader became The New Leader (why??) and Jughead apparently is The Bomb with capital letters. Disc 5: apart from the honest-to-God terrible grammar when a who that refers to Sawyer and Juliet is places like an entire sentence later, Jacob became a mysterious man (LOL much? Especially since they say who is it in the summary for part II) and Faraday's plan suddenly becomes Jack's plan. Hurley and Miles are in the list of people shooting at the Swan station while if I remember right they were behind with Sayid and Jin and it was only the quadrangle down there and they keep on maintaining that it was Jack's plan. Ah, Daniel, poor baby, everyone forgets you.

Overall, it wasn't as hilariously LOLsome as last year with Faraday losing his journal and Kate changing sex, but still. Do these people a) know English and b) watch it? :// This is when I'm glad I don't watch the Italian adaptation... anyway, for now I haven't seen any extras or stuff, but I probably will soon-ish.

5. Ookay, I should be doing stuff. Like, writing. Or posting a fanmix. Or catching up with comments. So, I'll probably do one of the three while trying to make contact with a friend I was supposed to have lunch with and with whom I couldn't talk until now because of the phone issue. *waves*

Hahaha, thanks for the early morning LOLs! Poorly translated stuff is weirdly hilarious to me; I especially love what they came up with for Because You Left -- sounds like an epic soap opera! ;P

And a big woot to finding the DVDs for so cheap! I think they're going to be about $70 Canadian when they come out here next month (I'm getting the Blurays, though, so it's a bit more expensive); that sounds like a great deal!
the female ghost of tom joad: loljanie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 12:01 pm (UTC)
Oh, last year was MUCH better. Eggtown was renamed Infamous Business, The Shape Of Things To Come was Changing Of the Rules, Cabin Fever was Feverish Research, Ben warned Locke about rebellions, Locke wanted to leave the island, Daniel lost his diary and in his flashforward Jack lived with an UNUSUAL MALE friend (it declined the adjective as if Kate was a male, lol) and Something Nice Back Home was Unforeseen Operation. Which is like, seriously, WHAT. And I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but it DOES provide LOLs. Not that I'll ever watch the dubbed version. And yeah, Because You Left totally is the most epic soap title ever!!

Yeah I was lucky because they did the discounting thing for like three days, but since I was there I just went and took any possible thing I could find. You never know. It was a good deal indeed!
bold_seer: richardbold_seer on November 10th, 2009 06:27 pm (UTC)
Well, to be fair Cabin Fever would probably be difficult to translate; in most cases you’d lose at least one meaning of the title. (Don’t know if this necessarily is the case with Italian.) But Unforeseen Operation - that’s baaad. And Kate as a man – head, meet desk.
the female ghost of tom joad: loljanie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 06:46 pm (UTC)
Yeah I can give them Cabin Fever and Eggtown even if I'm half-sure that there is some Italian expression which was more fitting, but seriously. Unforeseen Operation was just terrible. And yeah, Kate was a man and Daniel lost his journal and Ben turned the wheel because Jack told him too. *sigh*

He! I guess Kate is still a man because they didn't change her back in this set!

Was Miles at the shootout? I know he saved his dad at one point. At least Hurley stayed behind with Sayid. Maybe he was planning to drive the van into the bomb and save the day.

Congrats on almost finishing your deadline fic!

LOL, yes! I concur, it must have been because of that. Poor Kate, not only she gets fandom hate, now Italian adapters made her a champion of transgender rights. ;)

Mm, Miles brought Candle out of the way but if he was there Hurley totally wasn't. If he had driven the van we'd have probably had a lot more fun, I think.

Thanks! I hope to be done asap.

LOL yes! It was last year actually, in the summary for Something Nice Back Home they said that in the future Jack lived with an unusual friend, except that the not-specified friend (who was supposed to be Kate) was declined as male and I was like WHAT? XD That was just the best one though. ;)

Thank you!

I'm kind of surprised that in Europe we got the Lost dvds before America or so it seems.

Go Europe! ;) Unfortunately, I'm not that excited about getting the Lost DVDs this time; season five wasn’t exactly stellar and I’ve got Jughead and some other eps on my DVR. Besides, I’m planning to re-watch seasons 2 & 3 of SPN in the near future and probably re-watch some-other-show-that's-not-Lost, as well.
the female ghost of tom joad: lost -> generaljanie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 06:48 pm (UTC)
To be honest I didn't exactly like S5 either and I wasn't too excited to buy them, but it's still Lost and I'm going to have it all on dvd. ;) Also there was the discount and I was never going to get them as cheap as they were even in a year's time, so I just figured I'd buy them now. And I'm totally not planning on re-watching it since I need to catch up with at least five shows, but still. They're there and I paid them half the price. ;)

Hee! Translations do seem to provide lots of amusement! You'd think they'd be able to find someone who could do a better job!

I seem to recall Miles and Jin at least at the shootout at the end the TI. Though it's not like I'm gonna watch it again - EVER - so I can't be positive.

Sigh. I haven't bough the DVDs since S3.
the female ghost of tom joad: lost sawyer/sayid *_*janie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 07:31 pm (UTC)
Oh, they are half of the reason I buy the Italian editions and don't just order them online. They provide for at least ten minutes of good fun... before the obligatory headdesking. Hell, I'd do a better job myself.

Now that I think about that I'm pretty sure that Miles was there but I think that Jin was with Hurley and Sayid. But then again I'm not ever watching it again either if I can help it, so I wouldn't know.

I bought them all but I also just want to have it all and I can't possibly keep five seasons on my HD. And it was cheap so I just went for it, also because no way I was going to pay 50 euros for it.
Zelda: Nadia Kittyzelda_zee on November 10th, 2009 07:35 pm (UTC)
Idk, I was pretty sure they'd left Sayid alone. (Another reason not to like the ep.) I think I talked about it afterward, how disappointed I was that Jack and Juliet were too caught up in their romantic angst to look after a patient and basically abandoned him to die alone.

I kinda feel like I should have the whole run of the show on DVD, but realistically I don't imagine I'd sit down and watch it again.
the female ghost of tom joad: tangerinesjanie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 07:48 pm (UTC)
I have fuzzy memories. I'm pretty sure that Hurley was there at least and I remember being kind of pissed because Jack was the only one who could have done something about it and left instead, but I've seen that ep. once so I wouldn't know. Still, that ep. sucked throughout.

S5 is the only one I'm not seeing myself re-watching anytime soon. The others I'll probably re-watch sometime (1 especially) but this set I really bought just to have it all.
Lneated on November 10th, 2009 07:23 pm (UTC)
OMG I wish I'd ever get 30% of my dvd's. I'd buy like a million.

LMAO we got 'The Bomb' in Germany too. It's terrible. Some Like it Hoth was The Empire strikes back, which was at least a bit better. As for the text part I have no idea, but your's sounds hilarious.
the female ghost of tom joad: loljanie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 07:32 pm (UTC)
Ha, I'd have totally done that too if I had enough money with me. ;)

Ha, seems like we're all too stupid to realize that bombs can have a name too? And well, at least The Empire Strikes Back has something to do with the actual ep. :// And yeah, it totally provides the lols. ;)

I can't stop giggling at

- how the lie is now HUGE

- Some Like It Hoth became The Father Who Wasn't There (what?)

I do think that the people doing that shit don't listen. seriously. that's like my satellite company, when you look for info on a program, they list one or two actors, the date, the title of the episode and a brief description, right? well for years (I need to check if it's still like that) for Supernatural they said "with Jared Padalecki and Dean Winchester (2008) title -whatever.) yeah. right. I'd love it, but Dean? not real (damnit! *pouts*)
the female ghost of tom joad: ARE YOU SERIOUS?janie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 08:39 pm (UTC)
Yeah and they kept on stressing that it was HUUUGE in the summaries. I seriously love them for providing such lols. And yeah. I mean, use some Star Wars related title, can't you? Is that so hard? :// I mean, and people get paid to do that. *headdesk*

I think they translate the summaries with babelfish or something because there's no way they watched that stuff. And omg, LOL!!! DEAN IS ALIVE!!!! THEY FOUND OUT THAT DEAN IS ALIVE!!! *roll eyes* That totally trumps it all. Oh my.

"with Jared Padalecki and Dean Winchester (2008)"

This just made me LOL for real! It's bad enough that Jensen's name usually gets misspelled "Jenson" or whatever, but this takes the cake!

IT TOTALLY IS THE MOST PROFOUND TITLE IN EXISTENCE. ACTUALLY I SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT AT YOUR CRAZY PROMPTS THING. Whatever, you're totally getting it the next time you take prompts. ;) ;) ;) And LOL YEAH DESTINY CALLS, BECAUSE IT WAS A HUGE LIE. They make me lol so much until I forget that they're paid to do that stuff.

Buahahaha well that one cracked me up too. Personally I thought that the ep. was meh but that the title was genius so clearly they changed that but lol.

And HA, Scrambled Eggs > Infamous Business as it was here. ;)

"The Lie became The Huge Lie (??)"

LOLOLOL

I love things getting lost in translation.
the female ghost of tom joad: ARE YOU SERIOUS?janie_tangerine on November 10th, 2009 11:15 pm (UTC)
Yep, happened in last year's dvds. When they were talking about Something Nice Back Home the summary said that Jack lived with an unusual friend, except that the noun for friend was declined as if the person in question was MALE and I had a fit of laughter because seriously, LOL.

And it totally became that ;) ;) that's kinda amusing. Then I remember that people get paid to do that. *headdesk*

Buahahaham that's hilarious! Or maybe the translator secretly ships Jack/Sawyer and wanted to imply that instead. ;)
the female ghost of tom joad: lost jack/sawyerjanie_tangerine on November 11th, 2009 01:54 pm (UTC)
Buahahah the thought crossed my mind! Sadly they got ten summaries wrong on fourteen so I wouldn't have too much faith in that, but thinking they ship J/S is probably saner. ;)
Louquantumdoll on November 11th, 2009 12:11 am (UTC)
Oh, I lol'd when I read this! I think it's so great that Jughead became The Bomb! Why does it need a capital in 'bomb'? Is it because Jughead is just so great that it can't be compared to other bombs? ^_^ And Kate changing sex...heeeeee, I must have missed that episode. And yes, poor Daniel baby indeed. I was depressed for about 2 weeks after he met his fate. I bloody loved that man.

On a side note, have you seen the Lost s5 Dharma Initiation kit the US is getting? I would kill to own it...
the female ghost of tom joad: loljanie_tangerine on November 11th, 2009 01:57 pm (UTC)
LOL, probably it's because of that! I mean, either you call it Jughead or the bomb without the capitals. :/ Kate changing sex was totally the best mistake they had out, and it's weird because the S1 dvds are fairly accurate and until S3 in general they weren't as bad, but S4 and S5 were just downright hilarious. I wished I had seen the Kate changing sex episode though! Poor Daniel indeed. :(( I wasn't depressed just because I saw The Rapture on the same day and instead of being enraged at Darlton I thought I'd drown myself in Jimmy angst, but still. DANIEL. I loved him too. ;___;

I've seen that and it's just so awesome! Does that stuff come to Europe?
Louquantumdoll on November 11th, 2009 04:55 pm (UTC)
As far as I know the Dharma Initiation kit is US only. Apparently us Europeans are no worthy of it. I know, I cried too...
missy_uselessmissy_useless on November 11th, 2009 03:53 pm (UTC)
LOOOOOOOOOL!

Kate is a man? I totally missed that. And The Absence And The Emptiness is epic, seriously. And the lie is huge and - just lol! Thanks so much for sharing that. ;D
the female ghost of tom joad: loljanie_tangerine on November 12th, 2009 05:46 pm (UTC)
YES, they said Jack lived with a friend with the noun declined the male way. But it was in last year's dvds, these ones were sadly less bad. But still fun. The Absence And The Emptiness needs to be the title of the finale!!! And LOL, yes, the lie is HUUUGEEEE. ;)
