movie meme!
... I should be writing a real entry but clearly I'm feeling like procrastinating, so have a movie meme stolen from ozmissage and crickets. Some of the quotes are not guessed for the previous time I did this since I forgot to post the answers and I like those too much, lol. Also I'll try to avoid my usual favorites this round as well..

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

1. - I thought you were the heat.
- Do I look like heat?
- You look like one crazy sonofabitch for a preacher, I'll tell ya' that.
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot guessed by lexhibition

2. Throw out that last, take this. This is the most titanic battle of modern times. A David without even a slingshot rises to do battle against the mighty Goliath, the Taylor machine, allegedly crooked inside and out. Yeah, and for my money, you can cut out the "allegedly." Mr. Smith goes to Washington, guessed by wandersfound

3. And I'm not a cab driver, I'm a coffee pot! Arsenic and old lace, guessed by speak_me_fair

4. You know, ***, you have a goddamned red, white and blue American right to eat cotton candy and ride roller coasters.

5. I'm not dying yet. I have to kill quite a few men first. Yojimbo, guessed by lexhibition

6. To smoke, and have coffee - and if you do it together, it's fantastic. Wings of Desire, guessed by lexhibition

7. Hands! Men's hands! How I hate them! Men! The beasts! God would show wisdom if he took the hands from all of them! Forgive me, ***... I did not mean you. You are the one man I can come to without fear. [sorta hint since this is hard-ish: it's a silent movie, so you're looking for captions rather than a spoken quote] The Unknown, guessed by lexhibition

8. - I won't let you die.
- You don't have a choice. Neither do I. Remember, we're bringing God and man together. They'll never be together unless I die. I'm the sacrifice... Forget everything else, understand that.
The Last Temptation of Christ, guessed by lexhibition

9. Nine million terrorists in the world and I gotta kill one with feet smaller than my sister. Die Hard, guessed by gottalovev and wandersfound

10. - *** gave me a picture of you once. I didn't know why at the time. It was very old - torn, faded. You were young like you are now. You seemed just a little sad. I used to always wonder what you were thinking at that moment. I memorized every line, every curve. I came across time for you ***. I love you; I always have. Terminator, guessed by speak_me_fair, mozartfan1313 and hils

11. - Fifty Quid! I didn't know pricks could be so expensive!
- Only if you behave like one.
Different for girls, guessed by gehirnstuerm

12. - How'd you like it?
- Like it?
- White water rapids!
- I never dreamed...
- I don't blame you for being scared - not one bit. Nobody with good sense ain't scared of white water...
- I never dreamed that any mere physical experience could be so stimulating!
The African Queen, guessed by blue_fjords

13. - Why don't we just tell him the truth?
- The truth? That's dynamite.
- But I'm innocent.
- The jails are full with innocent people because they told the truth.
Irma la douce, guessed by lexhibition

14. I'm in love with you. And not just from tonight. I've known you for a long time. I know that you come out from work and fight your way out that door. You get pushed back in, and then you come back out. I walk with you to lunch. It's a good day if you stop and get that romance novel at that store. I know on Wednesdays, you go to that dim sum parlour. And I know that you get a jawbreaker before you go back into work. And I know you hate your job and you don't have many friends. Sometimes you feel uncoordinated... and you don't feel as wonderful as everybody else. Feeling as alone and separate as you feel you are... I love you. I love you. I think you're the greatest thing since spice racks. I'd be knocked out if I could just have that first kiss. And I won't be distant. I'll come back in the morning. I'll call you, if you'll let me. But I still don't drink coffee. The Fisher King, guessed by speak_me_fair

15. - That's not your grandfather.
- It is, you know.
- But I've seen your grandfather. He lives in your house.
- Oh, that's my other grandfather, but he's my grandfather, as well.
- How do you reckon that one out?
- Well, everyone's entitled to two, aren't they?
A Hard Day's Night, guessed by wandersfound

Knock yourself out. Real entry tomorrow, hopefully.

I'm really bad at these games, and I could be totally wrong, but 9 sounds like something out of Die Hard?

Aand you got it right! :D It's Die Hard #1indeed. ;)

#1 -- OH GOD, I KNOW THIS ONE. But I can't think of the title! It's a Clint Eastwood movie, y/n? Pale Rider? Is that it? That's what just popped into my mind, lol. That sounds about right, but I could be way off. *facepalm*
the female ghost of tom joad: clint bridgesjanie_tangerine on February 21st, 2011 11:44 pm (UTC)
You're half right! :D it's with Eastwood and 70s, but it isn't Pale Rider (WHICH WILL APPEAR IN THE FUTURE IN THIS MEME NN) but he's the one the other person's calling preacher. XD Hint: he didn't direct it.
Because it was you, because it was me...: aramis misericordespeak_me_fair on February 21st, 2011 11:59 pm (UTC)
3. Arsenic and Old Lace

10: Terminator

14: The Fisher King (oh that moment is so sweet and sad and breaks me every time!)
the female ghost of tom joad: the three musketeersjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 12:15 am (UTC)
Correct, correct and correct! Gosh I melted that first time I watched that scene in Fisher King ;__; it's so touching.

I have never seen "The Fisher King" but that quote makes me want to watch it!
the female ghost of tom joad: lost sun/jinjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 12:37 am (UTC)
I highly recommend it! :D That scene is gorgeous but that whole movie is a blast. It's such a clever, gorgeous movie. And while being sorta angsty it makes you feel happy. Also if you're into Arthurian legends and/or T.S. Eliot you're in for a treat. ;)
Because it was you, because it was me...: athos coulespeak_me_fair on February 22nd, 2011 12:21 am (UTC)
I later realised I knew a few more, but this was not meant to be a test of reflective memory, I feel!

(that whole FILM. Wow.)
the female ghost of tom joad: the three musketeersjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 12:38 am (UTC)
WOW INDEED. It's such a clever gorgeous movie. There's a reason I'll watch any movie Terry Gilliam shoots but I think that one is my favorite of his. ♥

Is #12 "The African Queen" by any chance? I recall Hepburn and Bogart floating down the river...
the female ghost of tom joad: bogart & bacalljanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 12:39 am (UTC)
Very much so, correct! :D (or, anytime I do this meme there's the obligatory Bogart movie. XD)
Lauramozartfan1313 on February 22nd, 2011 12:16 am (UTC)
10) The Terminator (Kyle Reese)
the female ghost of tom joad: marlon brando *_*janie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 12:40 am (UTC)
Correct! :D
Hilshils on February 22nd, 2011 12:32 am (UTC)
10 is Terminator
the female ghost of tom joad: tangerinesjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 12:40 am (UTC)
Correct!:D
(Deleted comment)
the female ghost of tom joad: tangerinesjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 10:38 am (UTC)
Nope. But you're close! Or better: sort of same subject, very much different movie. (Though the one I have here isn't just about the Passion, it covers a lot more things.) Hint: it has the exactly contrary approach to that story, in comparison to The Passion. ;)
Terra: batman- penguinfaery on February 22nd, 2011 02:39 am (UTC)
13- Shawshank redemption?
the female ghost of tom joad: tangerinesjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 10:40 am (UTC)
Nope. Might seem like a prison movie but it's everything but. It's from the sixties. ;)
falafel_musings: ros/guilfalafel_musings on February 22nd, 2011 08:50 am (UTC)
I'm afraid I can't guess any of the others but I LOVE that speech by Parry in 'The Fisher King'. Like, most romantic stalker speech ever! I love that movie so much.
the female ghost of tom joad: der himmel uber berlinjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 10:41 am (UTC)
I know? If I had been the girl I'd have so fallen for him right that moment. ;) ;) That's such a lovely moment. But that entire movie is awesome. :D

5. The Princess Bride
a geek in such the wrong way: misc-movie reelshaldoor on February 22nd, 2011 10:05 am (UTC)
and maybe #1 is Dirty Harry?
the female ghost of tom joad: chuck chuck/brycejanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 10:49 am (UTC)
Half right! It's a 70s movie and it stars Eastwood but it's not Dirty Harry. Hint: it's probably the slashiest movie good old Clint has ever done. One of the two people speaking ended up crossdressing. ;)
the female ghost of tom joad: marlon brando *_*janie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 10:47 am (UTC)
Nope, though I can see why it might sound like that one. It's a Japanese movie so that quote is probably a translation, but I checked and it's written like that everywhere. ;) Hint: in the (huge) remake they did, Clint Eastwood was in the role of the guy saying that quote. ;)
Big Bag of Weirdgehirnstuerm on February 22nd, 2011 10:37 am (UTC)
If I remember correctly, 11 is from "Different for Girls"!
the female ghost of tom joad: sherlock (bbc)janie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 10:50 am (UTC)
Correct! :D lol I'm so predictable. ;)
lexhibition on February 22nd, 2011 11:56 am (UTC)
5. is Yojimbo

6. is Wings of Desire

8. is The Last Temptation of Christ

13. is Irma la Douce

1. is...nvsfdkjnsvkjfbnjkv it's something about Lightfoot. Fleetfoot? There's a foot. ARGH I KNOW THIS.

7. is that one that has Lon Chaney and Joan Crawford in it, right? FFFFFUUUU BRAIN WHY WON'T YOU WORK. It's the one with the armless knife thrower. redbfaghbdfhv Maybe I'll remember the title when I wake up.
the female ghost of tom joad: der himmel uber berlinjanie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 12:21 pm (UTC)
YOU OFFICIALLY OWNED THIS MEME :DDDD 5/6/8/13 are totes correct! (and SOMEONE ELSE THAT SAW THE LAST TEMTATION OF CHRIST *shakes hand* I never meet anyone who saw that.

Aaaand since they're hard but YOU TOTALLY GOT THEM, I'll give both of them. ;) First has indeed a Lightfootfoot in it, it's Thunderbolt and Ligthfoot. ;) ;) and YEAAAAH THAT'S THE OTHER ONE. Title would be The Unknown but since you totally got it right the title doesn't matter, it was totally the bitchiest of that bunch.
lexhibition on February 23rd, 2011 01:39 pm (UTC)
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I think it says a lot about my cultural education that I guessed the ones I did easily enough but I would never in a million years have recognized the Die Hard or Terminator ones. XDD OMG LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST it's a Scorsese movie, I'm always shocked it isn't better known! It's one of my Dad's favourites.

AND JNBJKDBKWD THE UNKNOWN OF COURSE. I was looking for a dvd of it not long ago because oh, Lon Chaney how I love you.

Anyway. You have awesome taste in movies. THUMBS UP. Now I'm going to drive myself insane puzzling over that last unguessed one.
the female ghost of tom joad: der himmel uber berlinjanie_tangerine on February 23rd, 2011 04:17 pm (UTC)
Well, since you were awesome I can hint you the unguessed one. The person saying that has kind of kidnapped the person he's talking to. Also the ending never fails to make me weep angry tears. ;) Also it's from a famous director and stars a uber-famous actor but nonetheless it's totally underrated. xD

THUMBS UP FOR YOU TOO OBVIOUSLY. :DDD and ha lol movies with huge explosions and Bruce Willis starring are kind of my guilty pleasure, but the ones you guessed easily are definitely higher in my chard XDDD and YES THAT MOVIE IDEK WHY IT ISN'T BETTER KNOWN (maybe because of how it treats the subject..?) but I seriously can't believe that it's so underrated when Scorsese directed it. If only it was half as famous as The Passion (which I refuse to watch on principle) is..

YEAH I'D LIKE A DVD FOR IT AS WELL. I sadly never found it and I only have a downloaded copy with like Czech subs on the captions but damn if it isn't just great. (Word on Lon Chaney. They don't make actors like that anymore.)
ozmissage: Movie. BAT. belong to no one.ozmissage on February 22nd, 2011 07:26 pm (UTC)
Um, I'm totally using this post to gather movie recs, just so you know. ;) I haven't seen some of these, Different for Girls especially has me intrigued.
the female ghost of tom joad: marlon brando *_*janie_tangerine on February 22nd, 2011 07:39 pm (UTC)
Feel free to gather! ;) Different for Girls is the most precious movie I've watched in ages, I totally recommend it. ♥ (though my favorite of this whole bunch is probably the only unguessed one. I highly recommend that one too anyway, after googling XD)
ozmissage: Movie. BAT. belong to no one.ozmissage on February 22nd, 2011 10:47 pm (UTC)
That quote sounded so familiar, now I know why. That movie is amazing, but so sad. I haven't watched it in years, but I remember loving it.
