womenlovefest day 3: random Brienne quotes compilation
These were all supposed to be in icons, but my photoshop has decided that it needs to crash like a car going thrice the speed limit which also kept me from posting about Bonnie today & yesterday since I had posts heavy on graphics in program. as soon as it works again...

So, you get the next best thing.

I went around on the internet fishing for quotes to icon and I sadly realized that the one quote of Brienne's that is everywhere is the one about always being summer in songs. Which wasn't going to fly. So I picked up the books and went searching by hand. Most of these are from ACOK and ASOS because it took me two hours to get through those two and it wasn't even her POV, so the ones from AFFC I had because I had noted them in other occasions, but I might do an edition of AFFC later when I do meta about it. For now, get a selection of Brienne quotage with yours truly's running commentary.

A Clash of Kings

- I am not made to be a mother. I need to fight. [she knows what she's good at. If you ask me she'd make a good mother too, but I love that with her it's not really the point.]

- Fighting is better than this waiting. You don't feel so helpless when you fight. You have a sword and a horse, sometimes an axe. When you're armored, it's hard for anyone to hurt you. [The last bit slays me. Because when you know her backstory you know that the only times she didn't get hurt were when she was wearing that armor.]

- Winter will never come for the likes of us. Should we die in battle, they will sing of us, and it's always summer in the songs. In the songs all knights are gallant, all maids are beautiful and the sun is always shining. [or, probably most famous quote of hers. I love it, but because it's so tragic it makes me want to cry, not because it means she has her head in the clouds. All maids are beautiful in songs. Oh Brienne.]

A Storm of Swords

- I will not serve oathbreakers and murderers. [or, the one time she was wrong, more or less, but I kind of love that it was after the RW when she felt completely drained and out of her element. She still had her moral compass.]

- Jaime: I'll die if it pleases me.
Brienne: Are you so craven? [in any other occasion he'd have probably strangled her one-handed for saying this but gosh when she gave him that reply I cheered.]

- Live. Live, and fight, and take revenge. [same as above. At this point she doesn't even like him but she still doesn't let him die.]

- Jaime: Let them have the meat, and you go far away. It will be over quicker, and they'll get less pleasure from it.
Brienne: They'll get no pleasure from what I'll give them. [what's interesting about this: his first thought is that she should do what he did when he was in Aerys' guard and lay back and think of anything else. At which I'd say, dear, you're kind of a quitter. And she answers that she isn't even thinking about it. Considering that she bit off Vargo Hoat's ear when he tried to get through with it... I can only like that she doesn't even think about giving up for a second. Learn, Jaime, learn.]

- It is a rare and precious gift to be a knight. [whenever she says this kind of stuff I want to weep and someone to just make her swear vows officially and goddamn knight her.]

- I am as good a fighter as you. [YES. I love that she said it to Jaime's face. She knows she's good and that she isn't a bluff.]

- You will call me Brienne, not wench. [YES again. I kind of love how they go from reminding each other not to use kingslayer and wench to use their proper names without the both of them realizing it, but oh whenever she tells him her name is Brienne I'm like GO YOU.]

- I will. And I will find the girl and keep her safe. For her lady mother's sake. And for yours. [nngh. This bit kills me. She still holds her vows to Catelyn, and by now she's all right with swearing ones to him. She could get over her preconception regarding him and I love her for it.]

A Feast For Crows, part one

- Honor. The point is honor. [I love Brienne's love for honor. I never want her not to be honorable.]

- He trusted me with his sword. He trusted me with his honor. [I love that this was after she remember failing Renly and Catelyn. And that she's determined not to fail Jaime also because it'd mean partly not failing Catelyn as well. And yes, I love that she's honored that she was trusted with someone else's honor. I love how she takes that specific vow so seriously also because he gave her a purpose when she practically had none except going back home without having gained anything. All right this is five times longer than the actual quote so maybe I should quit.]

- I have to find her. There are others looking, all wanting to capture her and sell her to the queen. I have to find her first. I promised Jaime. Oathkeeper, he named the sword. I have to try to save her. Or die in the attempt. [considering that she says this after crying while saying that her father deserved a worthy heir while the gods let only her survive and after she remembers all the crap she's been through since her first failed bethrotal... I can only admire her resolve. In her place I'd have stopped at having the nervous breakdown. I'll never not feel like she deserves to come out on top anytime she opens her mouth and says this kind of things.]

In the next episode, hopefully icons. Or a fanmix. If photoshop doesn't keep on dying. Or the AFFC meta if it does.

I feel really badly that I have not had time (but tomorrow I will, yay!!) to read and comment on your posts yet since you have posted such nice things on mine.

In the songs all knights are gallant, all maids are beautiful and the sun is always shining. OMH this quote always makes me so sad

Jaime: I'll die if it pleases me.
Brienne: Are you so craven?

I love this respose of hers (and the next quote). Even though she doesn't even like Jaime yet she knows how to make him want to keep living. And she calls him Jaime for the first time too. <3

It is a rare and precious gift to be a knight. And sometimes I think she is the only one who really understands this. It doesn't matter that most knight are scumbags irl, they are still the ones everyone else wants to be.

I am as good a fighter as you. [YES. I love that she said it to Jaime's face.] ME TOO!!!!

I love the whole 'name' thing with Jaime and Brienne so much. It creates really great dialogue but also quite a few powerful moments.

I will. And I will find the girl and keep her safe. For her lady mother's sake. And for yours. [nngh. This bit kills me. She still holds her vows to Catelyn, and by now she's all right with swearing ones to him. She could get over her preconception regarding him and I love her for it.]
This KILLS me too lol (a lot of the Jaime/Brienne stuff does though XD) I love how she allows her preconceptions to change (I am going to do that as one of traits in my posts lol)

He trusted me with his sword. He trusted me with his honor I love that she takes it so seriously that it is not just her honor she is defending. And considering just how the rest of Westeros thinks of Jaime Lannister and honor, she is basically fighting an impossible battle trying to defend his honor, but that doesn't even stop her for a second.

They're there for public consumption! ;) not that I've managed to comment on everything I wanted. Or not to fall behind...

That quote makes me cry. Not so much when I read ACOK for the first time but in retrospective... ouch. *grabs tissue*

I loved that it was the first time she called him Jaime. <3 and that she wasn't going to let him die just like that. I don't even think it had anything to do with oaths by that point - I like that she knows what empathy is most times.

sometimes I think she is the only one who really understands this.

SO MUCH. If she gets through next book still believing it and no one knights her I'll shake fists at GRRM forever.

That made for awesome dialogue, yes. And I loved that he was subtly showing how what they thought about each other changed through how they used their real names.

Lol half of the Jaime/Brienne stuff slays me really as well ;) but yeah I really loved how she changed idea when she had proof that he wasn't what she thought. (And that he understood her a lot better than most.) And ee I can't wait to read your posts about that particularly :DD

I think fighting impossible battles is her thing? But yeah basically wanting to defend his honor when everyone knows the sorry state it's in just makes me cheer harder. And that she doesn't even think about not doing it once.

I sometimes have issues with Martin's style/characterization but there is nothing about the way he writes Brienne that I'm not in love with. I think I officially fell for her with the Winter will never come for the likes of us. Should we die in battle, they will sing of us, and it's always summer in the songs. In the songs all knights are gallant, all maids are beautiful and the sun is always shining.

I love how she truly believes in honor and loyalty. In a post-Ned world, we desperately needed Brienne.

I know? I don't get why some people apparently do have said issues with her but my love for that girl is endless. I think my official moment of 'OH SHIT I LOVE YOU' was when Catelyn realized she hadn't gotten rid of the rainbow cloak even if it got bloody/torn, and then in AFFC it skyrocketed to favorite character that isn't Robb Stark, but there isn't one thing about her that is written badly really. My love is endless.

And I think that Ned would totally love her. ;) at least someone has some honor left here >__>
