supernatural 7x23, survival of the fittest

1) WHAT WAS THAT OMG THE ENDING WAS AWESOME. Actually it was overall great though I have a couple of quibbles, but that said seriously I'M SO HAPPY WITH THIS TURN OF EVENTS.

2) Also congratulations on managing to wrap up with sense a season that had a basic plot all over the place, really. And I'm really REALLY glad we're done with Dick because as much as I liked the snark and the smarts, the actor looking like Christian Bale was the reason why I never took him seriously and I suppose giggling every time the super scary villain comes on screen isn't exactly the best reaction anyone could have.

3) I still don't get what Meg's overall endgame was, but whatever, she was relatively useful and she said that Dean was Cas's boyfriend so she gets a pass for now.

4) CROWLEY AND HIS CONTRACT <33333333333333333333 and his bunch of double-crossing. Oh Crowley, never change. And the snarking with Dick was priceless.

7) On more serious matters: that scene with Cas and Dean next to the car was - OH MY HEART EVERYTHING I WANTED SINCE LAST SEASON. It was just so - I really wanted them to talk it out and they did and oh my god the way Cas smiled at Dean when he said he sorta forgave him and all of them were damaged goods and he said he'd go with him <333333333 and in less capslocky and more coherent feelings it was such a good mirror to the talk they had last year. I mean last year Cas asked Dean to stand with him and Dean didn't and they had that entire baggage of lies and betrayal and stuff between them but now THEY GO HAVE THEIR LAST STAND TOGETHER and they're a lot more zen about it after all the shit they went through and and and and MY SHIP WATCH IT SAIL <3 And then they were so very perfectly coordinated when they went after Dick and and and AND ALL MY FEELINGS.

8) On that: OMG THEY'RE STUCK IN PURGATORY TOGETHER THAT'S THE BEST FUCKING THING EVER. I'll be more coherent about it after but oh my gosh I'm jonesing to see what happens with the two of them being forced to work together which hasn't happened in ages and IT'S JEREMY CARVER CALLING THE SHOTS NEXT SEASON and no people I can really really be hopeful that it ends up being as glorious as it could be yes?

9) And on that: PEOPLE, DEAN HAS A STORYLINE OF HIS OWN AGAIN. LET'S REJOICE PEOPLE, LET'S REJOICE. Not that I didn't like the rest but seriously he's been tagging along since the end of S5 at least, and it's gonna be good for his liver since there's no alcohol in Purgatory. Hopefully.

10) And with that, I really REALLY am excited about Sam being on his own without being able to take any shortcut he'd have taken in the past. Like, his track record isn't that great and it's been basically let's make a deal or let's drink demon blood or let's be soulless (not his fault tho) but now he can't do any of that also because he hopefully knows better, and there's no Bobby around either (and no Meg I guess) and I just really want to see how he gets by and how he manages to get them back. He's a smart cookie, he can do it. And it means we're not rehashing S1 again, which just, THANKS because the more this show tries to rehash S1 the more I enjoy it when it doesn't. If that makes sense.

11) I'm extremely sad to see Bobby go even if it was good that it was on his own terms instead of going off the rails and having Dean and Sam being forced to off him like any other spirit. And his scene with Sam ;___; UUUGHHHHH ;______; seriously I'd have rather have him not dead at all but I don't dislike the turn of events, so.

12) I don't really get the importance of the new prophet's storyline in the overall economy, but they're probably realizing that they need supporting characters around. Yes, that's me being like 'WHY DID YOU KILL EVERYONE ELSE OFF?'.

13) The blonde girl having to undress before they killed her was wholly unnecessary. Also the entire bioengineering thing Dick was planning was pretty much vomit-worthy. Bleah. Did I ever say I disliked Leviathans also because they're disgusting? Well, there, now I said it.

14) Seriously, the set-up for next season imo is awesome, and I'm really REALLY glad it looks as far as possible from the S1 rehashing they did this season which is the reason why I found it average 75% of the time. I'm so so very hopeful/excited right now. Also because sorry Sera, but new showrunner wrote half of my top ten episodes and two thirds of my top three, I'LL BE HERE BEING EXCITED OKAY.

15) And with this I think I ranted enough but omg I haven't been this happy with this show since... errrrr probably Frontierland. But Frontierland doesn't count. Let's say that I'm as happy with the possible direction of things as I was when I realized that S4 was a new shiny mytharc and I started getting into fandom for real. So yeah I'll be here having a squeefest and plotting stuff and being optimistic and damn, OCTOBER? REALLY? Long hiatus is long.

There you are! I was waiting for you to post!

I was . . . pleasantly surprised . . . by where this ep ended up. S8 is going to be interesting.

last year Cas asked Dean to stand with him and Dean didn't and they had that entire baggage of lies and betrayal and stuff between them but now THEY GO HAVE THEIR LAST STAND TOGETHER and they're a lot more zen about it after all the shit they went through

This. Yup, that discussion was a lovely corrective bookend to their scene in S6. And Castiel dismissing his own issues with confrontation to take up sides with Dean . . . yeah, that made me happy.

Sam being on his own without being able to take any shortcut he'd have taken in the past.

I'm just hoping he won't go the same route he went in "Mystery Spot," because now, there's no one left to pull him out of that downward spiral. Not even Gabriel to show him the error of his ways, you know? And like you said, he' got a bad track record in these matters. (But at least he's more aware of his shortcomings than he was in S3, so there's that.)

Bobby. *sigh* At least he went off HIS way. And hey, we called it! ;)

So. Gonna be writing any Purgatory fic this summer? *hopes*

Heee here I am! ;)

I'm so so so VERY pleased. This show tends me to interest me more when they're not doing the MOTW deal so.. ;)

I KNOW THAT SCENE WAS JUST SO PERFECT. I wanted to die of perfection. At least they rectified that other one, I didn't need my heart torn out of my chest again..

I'm very interested in that also because I mean, now Sam *does* know better than resorting to what he resorted to in the beginning, not that he *can* do it since demon blood or demon deals are probably not an option. And I really want to see him function on his own and see how he puts what he learned from his previous mistakes to practice. I'm dying to see it.

Yeah exactly re Bobby. Sigh. I'd have still preferred him not dead at all, but.

Oh, TOTALLY. I'm writing at least one, finals looming or not. XDDD

And now while I wait for it to download, all I really need to say right now is:

This makes me the happiest girl in the world because a) MY FUCKING BEAUTIFUL PERFECT CANON SHIP, and b) PURGATORY. I swear, I have been waiting for someone to go to Purgatory since way last year because that was the best idea S6 ever had and just ladj fkjadsk hgkasdfkjds.

Waiting for download so I can actually discuss this in context. I need it like, now. :(

You're the first person on my flist who's liked the ending. I did too! Of course, I have faith in Castiel not having deserted Dean. I'm excited about Purgatory, and really hoping that the direction they go is that Sam actually gets to rescue Dean, like he didn't get to do when he was in Hell. I'm thinking a hero's quest for Sam - now that he's entirely alone it's the perfect set up.

Crowley & Dick with the contract was fantastic. I wouldn't have minded if Crowley'd sealed the deal the old-fashioned way though.

I actually squealed "Baby!!" when the Impala returned. Mr. Z totally got it.

I'm sad about Bobby but also ready for him to go like I wasn't when he was killed.

October is so far away!

Woah, I was? Most people on my f-list liked it, but then again I guess why others wouldn't. But well, it was awesome imo ;) I don't really think Cas deserted Dean either, I figured he was going to explore the surroundings, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do stuck together there. And YES about Sam! I'm so so excited to see what they do with him - and you're totally spot-on that he can rescue Dean the way he couldn't when Dean was in Hell. I see it the same way, also because now he's learned from his past fuck-ups and I'm just jonesing to see it.

Haha the traditional way of sealing the contract would have been quite hot, I wouldn't have minded either! But the contract was just hilarious.

Me too! I was just so HAPPY to see her back. And yeah same for Bobby. Now I more or less had come to terms with it, while I really hadn't when he actually died.

I know? Long hiatus is ridiculously long. :(

I have (had, as I defriended a bunch of them) a fair number of Wincesters on my flist, as well as Dean/Cas ppl. But there was too much nastiness - talking about wanting Cas to just die in various horrible ways and whining about the brothers being separated instead of seeing that it's actually a set up with a lot of potential, including Sam saving Dean, which you'd think they'd like (I certainly do).
The Cleaverage: Winchesters of the Deadkel_reiley on May 20th, 2012 09:12 pm (UTC)

The Cleaveragekel_reiley on May 21st, 2012 07:51 pm (UTC)
There's really so much potential with how they left things, I hope they explore as much as possible with this situation. I would really like to see both Dean and Sam have their own story lines, their own journeys, and then an awesome reunion maybe mid-season. If Crowley is going to be the Big Bad, I suppose the second half of the season would be about how they take him down.

I also cannot wait for all the Dean/Cas in purgatory fic!

Basically agreed with all of this! I loved the ending and all the possibilities for next year :)

Also, all of #7 sums up my feelings perfectly! I loved that scene between Dean and Cas, and it was exactly what I've wanted between them for so long. IT WAS SO GOOD and yes, them finally talking things out is a big part of why I liked the finale. That and the ending, that amazing ending :)

Hiatus is going to be loooong! But I'm very excited for S8 now!

gosh that scene was so perfect - seriously. I died at it. I wanted that for so long, I'm really happy they got to talk it out and that they were working together so well at the end.

I'm SO excited. A lot more than I was excited for S7, that's sure. ;) ;)
The Cleaverage: dean/caskel_reiley on May 20th, 2012 08:55 pm (UTC)
1. Overall, I was really happy with this episode! Some things still don't make sense, but I can let 'em slide. The ending leaves SO MUCH potential - I really hope they come through on that next season.

2. I'm kind of wondering what happens to the rest of the Dicks... I mean, the other leviathans - if Crowley and his demons kill them all, aren't they just going to show up in purgatory to hunt Dean and Cas down?!

3. Despite sort of liking her the last few episodes, I was really hoping for a double-cross from Meg and an excuse for the boys to kill her. For Cas to allow her to be killed b/c he realizes that, yeah, she's still evil and she's killed many of Dean's friends over the years. Oh well. I guess we'll have to deal with her next season, too.

5. LOL and once again, they ended the season by crashing the Impala! Poor Baby takes so much abuse.

6. I srsly cannot even look at Cas anymore without thinking about Eddie Izzard - Naked. On Dean's car. COVERED IN BEES!

7. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

8. SO MUCH POTENTIAL! I have high (stupidly high) hope for that. Like, I really hope we get much more than just half the 1st episode of them working together in purgatory. It's literally a completely unmined source of potential storylines.

10. I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE SAM ON HIS OWN. I want to see the SMART Sam we've been seeing this past season - the one who actually thinks things through. Obviously he's going to be panicking about finding Dean, but I hope they don't go make him stupid again. I want to see him meet new ppl, good ppl he can team up with. It would be awesome if he somehow saves the prophet Kevin from Crowley and they work together. (Though it's weird how they have never ever wondered what happened to Chuck.)

11. I... not-so-secretly have hopes of seeing Bobby again. I mean, ok, they've never explained (or if they even KNOW) what happens to ghosts after they salt&burn the remains. So what if, like other things, they go to purgatory? I think it would be neat if Dean and Cas run into Bobby there. Even better if Cas finds a way to take Bobby's soul to Heaven.

12. Yeah, two against the world really stops working after, y'know, the 1st season.

13. That entire THING was unnecessary. And a bad plan, overall, for them. Skinny ppl are still edible, right? But you're just going to kill them off?

15. OCTOBER???! Dammit. And it's moving to Wednesday, too :(

I hope there's lots of fic between now and then!
cottoncory on June 24th, 2012 09:16 pm (UTC)
I agree with pretty much everything. I know, bad way to start a comment, but sheesh, you're just so right. And your excitement is almost tangible and it just tears mine with it and makes the hiatus more bearable (along with your amazing fanfiction, which - I'm not obsessed at all. Ehehe).
On the subject of the new prophet, they went through the trouble of introducing him properly and giving him a personality characters made a fuss about him; and now Crowley has him and he is also NOT A FEMALE, so I think chances are that he lives a while and we might see more of him next season. :D
Concerning the Cas and Dean talk, it was awesome, and yeah Cas's smile and his willingness to go down with him again, and Dean's forgiveness surfacing - there's so much fangirling to be done about all that. (AND Cas actually fought for Dean when he had made it clear that he wouldn't anymore. *sobs*) But still, here I am hoping that they talk about that some more, that Dean manages a proper "I forgive you", a proper "Thank you", a proper realisation of what Cas has done and why and how it /really/ all was for or because of him. Sigh. Just anything in the general direction of that. Being stuck in Purgatory gives you endless possibilities for interaction.

And then there's Sam. I've been thinking about that and coming up with people who are still there for him, but I ended up with Jody and Garth and Becky, so I decided to drop it and settle for him figuring out how to bring Cas and Dean back (although I've heard that they will spend a considerable amount of time apart).

Also, yeah, Dick was kinda hilarious-looking for a bad guy, but I liked his facial expression when Dean actually got him, the surprise and fury breaking out. Without his usual smugness. It was good.
And I thought that the season 7 plot was, while probably not perfectly original (it was freaky and menacing though, but sometimes I think even I could have done better *coughs* because there were still lots of things that didn't make sense), still a step up from S6, and now with someone else taking over the show, I'm almost certain that it will only get better from here. :D
So yeah, getting my hopes up and all. And isn't it exciting, Dean and Cas (who I still hope will show up in more than just 5 freaking episodes) and Purgatory and hopefully lots of appearances from amazing characters (because more Crowley is a must-have and it may be delusional, but I hope the Bring Back Gabriel movement actually makes a difference).

Anyway, now I'm just rambling too much. :'D
*leaves quietly to read more fanfiction*

Lol no worries, there's no bad way to start comments. ;) and lol yes I AM EXCITED, but no one is taking that from me after what happened in the S6 finale/last year. XD

Yeah I hope we see more of him, also because if Sam is on his own they'll have to make him interact with SOMEONE, since they killed everyone else except what, two people? *sigh* and wasn't that talk awesome? I didn't really mind that there wasn't anyone saying 'I forgive you' properly but I think they covered it in 7x17 when Dean said they could fix it - I don't buy that he wasn't sincere, lol. But yeah, I get your point - let's hope that they talk shit out while on the run from monsters...

Ikr about Dick? I just couldn't buy him. I mean, the actor was good and all, but I couldn't stop thinking about Christian Bale throughout and the entire thing was lost on me. I still like S6 better more or less, but mostly because S6 had a couple of my favorite individual eps (*cough* FRONTIERLAND *COUGH* ever while S7 stopped being average when Cas came back imo, but just the fact that Jeremy Carver is running the show now makes me VERY optimist. And I'd totally be fine with Gabriel being back - heck, I'd be okay with a general resurrection since I loved 90% of the dead supportings, but we shall see. :)
cottoncory on June 26th, 2012 06:39 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I agree, Dean and Cas already got a few steps towards the whole making up thing, but I still think there are too many things left unsaid. Let's hope there's time to talk about that in Purgatory. It doesn't even have to be the whole deal, just... something more than "I detect a note of forgiveness". A girl can dream. xD

And I'm all for resurrecting people, at least some of those who only died once (it feels weird to say that lol). Also, I found a post on tumblr earlier that said it would be cool to see Charlie again, which I think would be great.
Gabriel just came to my mind because I love him a lot and when I'm reading fanfiction that has him as a supporting role it just makes me miss him more :'D

We might actually see Dick again though, because if he goes to Purgatory in death, there's a good chance they'll run into him. And I'm fine with that as long as he loses the smugface.
Hehe, I figured Frontierland was one of your faves ;D I like it too, and The French Mistake is my favourite, but imho it wasn't enough to save the season. I mean, it's obviously not all bad, I just feel like half of the time, all the characters were terribly OOC (and I'm not even talking soulless Sam here), and then the Mother of All story arc wasn't bad, and I could even deal with Cas going darkside, but it was just all the... coldness between the characters and all the freaking lies and deceit that made me cringe (not to mention the Campbells, oh gosh, so much anger). I just liked S7 better after all that because they were cooperating some more and there was a general goal and while it was by no means perfect, they still managed to make things work. And if it was all a build-up to S8, then I'm even happier about it :D
the female ghost of tom joad: supernatural dean/cas THEY HAVE A BONDjanie_tangerine on June 26th, 2012 06:45 pm (UTC)
Oh dear, the idea of Dick in Purgatory looking like Christian Bale makes me snort so much XDDD maybe Purgatory is Gotham City >______> but I mean, Jeremy Carver <3s Cas so we can legitimately hope that he makes us happy!

Lol I just want Pamela, Ash and the Roadhouse people to be alive. if we throw in Gabriel/Balthazar/Rufus I'm totally happy. ... I realize I basically said half of the people that they killed off, but eeeh. Yeah, I guess that if one of them gets back it'll be a miracle *glares at the LET'S KILL PEOPLE OFF policy*

Frontierland is my third-fave overall or something. I'd have bought the dvd just for that one I think, but overall.. idk, the first half of S6 was a mess but I did love The Third Man/Frontierland/French Mistake/the Titanic ep/Man Who Would Be King and the one where they killed Eve, and I enjoyed the latter half (finale excluded) a lot more than I enjoyed S7 as a whole when Cas wasn't in, but then again I tend to like it better when there's a lot of supporting characters around, which was the case for S6 but not so much for S7. Which was less abysmally bad than the first half of S6, but I think I found some enthusiasm in there just towards the end, at the first episode and at the one where Dean went in the forties. Whatever, let's just hope that S8 is better than both put together! ;)
cottoncory on June 26th, 2012 07:05 pm (UTC)
Wouldn't that just be awesome, though. "I'm the villain that Purgatory deserves, but not the one it needs right now..."

I want half of the dead guys back too xD Now that you mention it, yesss Balthazar and Rufus! (Especially Balthazar because someone owes him an apology.)
As for Pamela and Ash, they seemed pretty happy in Heaven, so I got closure from that I guess. I mean, it would be cool if they showed up again, but I can deal with it if they don't :) As for Jo, they killed her ghost, right? So unless that means she goes to Purgatory, I dunno. And it would be good to know where Ellen went. oO

I agree that the latter half of S6 was better than the first. :) But in general, I suppose I can just deal with Cas not being around better than with Dean and Sam being terrible dicks. x'D (And after all, S7 does have that 40s episode... *swoon*)
And yeah, they do need to get more supporting cast back in.
(Also sorry for rambling so much, I just don't get to talk about all that a lot when I really really want to. xD)
Okay, I only just realised that Jeremy Carver wrote 5.03 and 5.08. Excuse me while I go scream in excitement and worship the guy. /lurches away
