Okay, so I wrote Kate/Cassidy. I'm surprised of myself. Especially because I had settled on writing Des/Sayid today. Geez, I am fickle.
Title: Ain't No Natural Con
Characters/Pairing: Kate/Cassidy
Rating: light R
Disclaimer: Okay, I'd like to own Cassidy, but Darlton can have Kate, for realz ;)
Word count: 413
Summary: Written for the Femmeslash Fic Battle at
lost_femmeslash. Cassidy had meant only to buy some food, not to run into Kate of everyone. Though the thing that surprised her most was probably the blond baby in the trolley.
Spoilers: for Eggtown and Left Behind.
A/N: I wrote something with Kate. I mean. Well, okay, it's still Cassidy's POV, but still. Apart from it, which surprises mostly myself, nothing really.
They met by chance, really. There isn't a worse cliché than running into each other at the supermarket, but that's how it happened, trolleys clashing. It was morning, Clementine was at school and Cassidy had meant only to buy some food, not to run into Kate of everyone. Though the thing that surprised her most was probably the blond baby in the trolley.
Cassidy knew that he was on that flight. She had deliberately ignored the news, not wanting to know a thing about the rescue after seeing who was rescued. He wasn't there, which meant that he was dead, which meant that she really didn't have an interest. Sure, it was surprising to see that Kate was there too but hey, coincidences happen.
She doesn't mean to ask; she knows something's off the second she says his name.
They have coffee together and Kate tells her a story which Cassidy can only partially believe; it's obvious that she's hiding something but it's also obvious that she isn't lying.
Kate invites her home and Cassidy accepts; Clementine is at school for three other good hours and Kate's son is already sleeping when they get in.
This is messed up, she thinks when it happens and she is against Kate's bedroom door, kissing her, Kate's teeth grasping her lower lip and biting it. She'll tell Clementine she fell. Kate's lips are soft and she's kissing her like she's trying to make up for something. Cassidy doesn't want to know what it is and just accepts it.
It happens again, and again, and again. Cassidy knows that it's Sawyer for both of them. Kate probably wants to make up to him, Cassidy only wants him back and Kate is the closest she has.
Cassidy realizes that it's sick, that they're just conning themselves with this; she also think about how ironic it is, the woman Sawyer left breaking her heart, and the woman that left Sawyer breaking his, because Cassidy has at least figured it out.
Then a day she doesn't see blue eyes when two of Kate's fingers are inside her and her other hand on Cassidy's hips, but hazel ones. She realized the con isn't working anymore and she just prays Kate doesn't find out.
Sawyer, James, he had known it. He had never told her, though. Cassidy can hear his voice, clear as ever, whispering in her ear, You ain't no natural con, Dimples, before she comes; but she's past caring.
End.
