quick update as per the state of things
1. I'm at my dad's family's, strangely the train wasn't late and I'll be back next Monday, but I'll be around pretty regularly from what I gather.

2. I'm almost done with the Orwell non-fiction #1 and I swear that if I had his essay on Dickens to study when I did Dickens in high school I'd have liked it a lot better.

3. There are no more Judging Amy re-runs. Fail. And Lost S5 has begun but it's at like, eleven in the evening. Double fail, even if I've already seen it all.

4. But, I caught some random House episode and the song in the end was by Lucinda Williams. ♥ Argh, another show I need to catch up with.

5. I should be caught up with the f-list but it was 100 entries and stuff so I probably skimmed and missed stuff.

6. That'd be all until now. Have a great weekend everyone! ♥

I'm glad you arrived safe and sound.

If one has to read Dickens at all, it should come with Orwell's essay or be read aloud by HIC. I had to read Oliver Twist this term for my children's history and it was fairly tolerable for Dickens, but like 24 chapters of the same thing over and over.

Ahh, no Judging Amy means no Adrian. I'm sorry! II guess it will be a no TV weekend.

Talk to you soon!

That essay is fantastic. I think I learned more about Dickens yesterday in half an hour than in three months of studying him. I tried Oliver Twist but I never could get past chapter four, and I've seen at least two movies which were out ot if. Me and Dickens are just not made for each other.

Nope, no Adrian. :( I'll stick with House I guess, even if I'm not caught up.

Uhm, in high school we did mostly excerpts and then study the themes and stuff from the literature book, which I always found the best way to make someone lose interest in the subject. We did excerpts from Oliver Twist and David Copperfield and then I was subjected to one of those facilitated versions of Great Expectations where 600 pages became 150 and that seriously was the worst. I tried reading those three on my own plus Hard Times and Pickwick Papers, but I never could finish one.

Wow, lots of bits and pieces then. I just finished doing Hard Times for Lit a few weeks back. Not half bad when you get far enough but GOD - talk about slog!

Definitely not my favourite writer. He's very good at what he does but...yeah not my favourite =P
