sooo, I finished Firefly. And Serenity too.
Phew. WHY DIDN'T IT LAST? *wants more*

OMG IT WAS SO GOOD! WHY DID THEY CANCEL IT? DAMMIT ;__; it was so good. OMG totally was.

1. So, I think that the second Our Mrs. Reynolds began Mal became definitely my favorite. I can't resist someone who likes cross dressing. *snorts like woah* I think that ep. is my overall favorite along with Out Of Gas, I can't decide which one I like best. Because, I mean, Out Of Gas was wonderful and sorta heartbreaking and I loved seeing how it was that everyone got recruited and I just love that kind of thing, but in Our Mrs Reynolds there was the whole thing with the special hell and then I was just cracking up. I knew about the whole big damn heroes thing floating in every single fandom I know coming from there, but I didn't know that it was also where the special hell came from!

1b. Actually, the fact that 'I'll be in my bunk' is from Jayne totally made me re-evaluate his awesomeness *cough*. Well, that and Jaynestown. That was another awesome one, omg. And LOL at poor Simon during that ep... also, Jayne and his mom's hat = MADE OF UTTER WIN OH MY.

2. It was horrible that it stopped at Objects In Space. Just when River totally became awesome (well, she was before but especially in that ep.) and it has that lovely ending and I'm all awww it had to be over? ;___;

3. I loved also Ariel a LOT. Jayne totally deserved that, but I love that he was awesome while being a bastard. And the lessons about what they should have said in the ambulance? Awesome. Everything about that ep. was awesome.

4. WHY DIDN'T I KNOW THAT EDWARD MARS/THE YELLOW EYED DEMON STOLE CHILDREN ON FIREFLY TOO? Oh God, when I saw the guy's face in Heart Of Gold I wanted to die laughing. Seriously. He plays the creep way too well, lol. But the fact that he was stealing the child and meanwhile being a creep towards women was too good for words. He was like, YED mixed with Mars. Oh dear.

5. That was such another good ep, by the way. I just loved the setting and the whole plot which was TOTALLY an Unforgiven rip-off, not that I mind. I LOVE MYSELF SOME UNFORGIVEN RIP OFFS.

6. I didn't warm up to the Mal/Inara stuff, but I did like Simon/Kaylee even if I didn't exactly ship them (I mean, I was like AW THEY'RE CUTE but that was it) and dammit, I loved Zoe/Wash to pieces.

7. Re Zoe/Wash, THAT EPISODE WHERE MAL AND WASH GOT TORTURED OH MY. ;_____; That was such a good one, that scene where they were arguing about her loyalties while being like electrocuted was... uuuh, woah?

8. I actually love that half of those common sayings in fandoms (IE I'll be in my bunk, I can kill you with my brain, I'm going to special hell etc.) come from here. Pretty much awesome considering that they lasted 14 eps. ;__;

9. Er, about the movie...

so, the movie was actually very, very good. Except for a couple of teeny tiny things, you see. I mean, I knew someone was going to bite it and I actually were sniffing when Book was killed off (;_________;) but then... right. For once I got the luck of liking the main character better and so I didn't have to go through the 'OMG MY FAVORITE IS DEAD' phase for the 1000th time, but...

SERIOUSLY, WHAT WAS JOSS WHEDON THINKING WHEN HE KILLED WASH??!!!!

... I'm heartbroken over that. Seriously. For once that I ship a canon ship so hard that it isn't funny and for once that I get seriously teary over people discussing having babies (that part in Heart of Gold omg ;___;) and I just love them and they don't do triangles... HE KILLS WASH???!! AND WITHOUT EVEN HAVING THOSE TWO SAY GOODBYE OR SOMETHING? WHAT? ;________; I can't see myself re-watching the movie anytime soon even if I did love it (but I can see myself re-watching the series, hell yes). Or maybe I'll get over it. I mean, WHAT. Damn. If it isn't my favorite character it's my favorite ship. *headdesk*

Also, at the end I was 90% sure that he had offed Simon too and if that had happened I'd have probably gone completely nuts because hi, I kinda love him to pieces, but thankfully he didn't. At least that. Buut....

WASH. ;____________; God, considering that I've seen it the same day as Heart Of Gold it just was... okay, fine. I'll stop blathering now. But. ZOE TOO. ;_______; Damn, I wish I actively shipped Simon/Kaylee, at least I'd have been more squeeful at the end.

10. I need to get hold of the dvds some way, dammit. Which I guess is not easy when in your country they weren't released... *sigh*

11. Anyway. I totally loved it all, except for point 9 (and for Book, dammiiittt ;__;). It was such a good show, and the premise was great and I loved every character and I wish there was more of it. A lot more of it. Even if I totally understood why Joss Whedon has the fame he has regarding killing characters.

12. Damn, pnr, you totally won. ;) ;)

Okay, so that's what I'm coming up with right now. I might have some other Firefly blathering in the next days if something comes to me. Now I'll be trying to catch up with writing stuff since my Renegade Angels fic was sent and revised and everything and my three days of frantically editing stuff are over. *cough* And tomorrow I might have a more personal update. Maybe.

1) MAL IS FUCKING HOT. End transmission.
2) WAAAAAAAAASSHHHHHH ;________;
3) I have direct DVD rips of the whole shoe on my computer in IMG files if you want them. I also plan on converting them to AVI, so if that would work better I can let you know once they're done converting. Anyway, if you want them, let me know and I'll upload them for you. It's not the physical DVDs, but it's something. And the files were ripped directly from the DVDs, so the quality is excellent and they have all the menus and everything. Just let me know. :)
4) RENEGADE. Omg dude! I'm thisclose</s> to finishing mine! I'm ~4500 words into it and I've only got two scenes left to write. Woo! I'll be so glad when I can get mine sent off too, guh. This is killing me, and dammit it's shoved Propensities onto the back burner. Not cool.

OMG HE IS! HE IS SO MUCH!

(Doesn't help that someone linked me a Dean/Mal epic crossover stuff and I spent this whole morning reading that and its four sequels. Oh dear.) THAT SAID, MAL OMG I LOVE HIM.

And... WAAAAAAAAAASH ;________________; seriously that was... *dies*

AHA, thaat's interesting! If you can do it and it isn't a problem I'd love them, also because the ones I have should be dvd rips but aren't that high quality. At least it'd be something, you're totally right. ('Cause, see, this lovely country is so awesome that not only you can't find that, but they didn't even put out the SPN S2 dvds even if they're already airing S3. Blah.)

AND YAY, GO YOU! Two scenes left sounds awesome, and mm, can't wait to read it. Seriously, the second I sent that mail I was like 'YEAH, FINALLY.' And NOT COOL ABOUT PROPENSITIES, especially when you left it THERE. ;) But hey, we can wait. ♥
bullet to the beast: [SPN] thevinegarworks on August 7th, 2009 03:59 pm (UTC)
HE SETS MY PANTIES ON FIRE.

sjdhajkldshajkd Dean/Mal wtfffffffff link me? As if I need somethings else to distract me from finishing this fic. But DAMMIT IT'S DEAN/MAL. I CAN'T PASS THAT UP.

Mkay. :) I'll probably start uploading them tomorrow. I've got a few people waiting on them, so it'll be done soon.

I KNOW, I'm sorry. I haven't, uh, edited anything more on PROP either, so posting is slow-coming these days as I'm having to kind of rewrite as I go along. Oops.
the female ghost of tom joad: supernatural deanjanie_tangerine on August 7th, 2009 04:04 pm (UTC)
There you go with the Dean/Mal, the first story is at the bottom and then all the sequels are linked. It's like, a total of 40000 words ca of PURE AWESOMENESS. ♥ But hey, maybe you should promise yourself you'd read it when you finish that other fic, incentive much? ;)

Yay, thanks!

And ha, don't worry! For one who has only managed to post one series which was all written already and couldn't finish TWO I can't really say anything. And with that other fic and all it's just normal that it gets put behind. ;) ♥

BWAHAHAHA I ALWAYS WIN BABY!
ok not always but often. At least when it comes to this shit.

I loved the arguing during torture as well. So obvious that Mal knows he can take it but Wash can't so he wires him up arguing about Zoe. Cause he knows that's like the only thin that will keep Wash alive ♥

In a way I think Objects in Space was a good place to finish (of course I think they should've continued, but you know what I mean right?) Cause Like they came together finally. Sort of like sailign away into the sunset but more... real and Firefly XD
the female ghost of tom joad: fireflyjanie_tangerine on August 7th, 2009 03:46 pm (UTC)
LOL YEAH YOU DO ;)

WORD ABOUT THAT TORTURE SCENE. Aw, MAL. ♥

Well yeah, you have a point about Objects In Space. I just... ;________; *wants more*

Hee, yeah. *raises hand* New to the whole thing but utterly loving it. And damn, how much I love all those fandom sayings, lol. I can't decide between the special hell and the bunk though.

I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you

BEST LINE EVER. -nod- and you're so right about the comic banter being subtle enough. God, idiots.

Mal/Serenity is indeed as OTP as Jayne/hat XDDD ♥

"I knew about the whole big damn heroes thing floating in every single fandom I know coming from there, but I didn't know that it was also where the special hell came from!"

I KNOW, I got so excited the first time I watched Firefly too, cause there are so many fandom lines that came from it. "Also, I can kill you with my brain" is the one I spazzed out most over. And also Wash's "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" And Jayne's Bunk line. THERE'S JUST TOO MANY. ♥

Mal is, just, my hero. I don't always love the main character/leader of the pack, but Mal is special. He's one of the gang, but also is a good authoritarian. He's got a good sense of humor, but he also knows when to be deadly serious. And stuff like calling out Jayne on his trying to sell out Simon and River, and continuing to argue with Wash when they were being tortured so that Wash would stay alert and taking Kaylee to the ball and EVERYTHING. Capt. Tightpaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaants. ♥ ♥ ♥

I gotta say, I'm just all over the canon Firefly ships. My friend who got me into the show also isn't a big Mal/Inara fan, but I like them. I want to smack them both over the head sometimes, but I like them. Simon/Kaylee are also too cute, especially in Serenity with the, "You mean to say, like... sex?" "I mean to say." "Well screw this, I'm livin'!" LOL. Zoe/Wash just make my heart hurt now... ;__; Joss is an evil bastard. He's killed a lot of characters I love in his shows throughout their duration, but Wash is the one that gets me the most.

...I may have to rewatch Firefly/Serenity now.
the female ghost of tom joad: fireflyjanie_tangerine on August 7th, 2009 05:28 pm (UTC)
I think they probably don't, most at least, which is a pity because they're awesome, lol. The brain one is AWESOME, even though I'm fond most of the special hell and the BUNK. OMG THE BUNK. *loves Jayne just for that*

YESYESYES ABOUT MAL. I never like the main character most, I don't think I ever did, but this round I just fell like woah. He's so awesome all around, and while I love that he's kinda the dark type he has the sense of humor which is totally so good. And WHEN HE CALLED OUT JAYNE OMG I WANTED TO MARRY HIM. AS IN THAT PART WITH WASH AND THE BALL! THE BALL OMG.

I'm totally over Wash/Zoe ;___; damn, I don't think I'll get over it anytime soon. ♥ I like Simon/Kaylee a lot, though not like Zoe/Wash. I mean, I think they're adorable together (Jaynestown especially ♥) but I'm less invested. About Mal/Inara.. duh, I think they're a nice couple but there's something that makes me think they work better not in a shippy sense. Not that I don't love them anyway. And yeah, on Twitter I was like YOU'RE AS BAD AS DARLTON, DAMMIT ;___;
Fangirlage like WHOA.: FF // OTPs - Noy ha neehopelessfangirl on August 7th, 2009 09:58 pm (UTC)
Yeah, the best thing about the angst in Mal's past is that he doesn't dote on it. He could be so much more emo and moody that the Browncoats lost the war, but instead he holds his head high and knows that he was fighting for the right side. I really admire that.

I know what you mean about Mal/Inara. I do very much like them in a shippy sense, but I think there would have been a lot at stake if the series lasted long enough for them to get together and have it be satisfying for the fans. They would have run the risk of getting boring once the UST was gone. But I guess Joss did have a plan for that: Morena Baccarin was at a con last year and someone had asked her about some of the possible health concerns that were hinted that Inara might have had, and she said that Inara was actually dying. I don't know what of, but here's a Wikipedia exerpt on it:
A subplot for Inara was hinted at throughout the series.[5] First, Joss Whedon explained in the DVD audio commentary for the pilot episode that the syringe Inara takes out during the Reaver encounter is not for suicide. Second, when the ship is disabled in the episode "Out of Gas," Simon said, "I don't want to die [on this ship]," to which Inara replied, "I don't want to die at all." In "Heart of Gold", Nandi mentions that she did not age at all. During a panel at 2008s DragonCon, Morena Baccarin confirmed[6], that Inara was indeed dying.

Puts a different spin on things, huh? I picked up on those comments before but never really thought much about them because that storyline wasn't explored any farther, but I've been wanting to rewatch the series with that in mind ever since that was confirmed.

Anyway, I didn't want to end on a downer, and I wanted to show you this anyway cause it's amazing and I want one so badly but they're unfortunately out of stock/probably won't ship here: The Jayne Hoodie. asfdsakfg;dsjkg;sfjas!!!

Sorry for replying so late here, LJ wouldn't let me comment or post for one day and a half, wtf.

That said, YESYES about Mal's past. I mean, he isn't like, brooding darkly on that as half of main characters with a dark past do XD I do really admire the guy for that really.

And oh, if she was going to die then the whole thing changes, I completely agree. Mm, when I re-watch I'll so definitely keep that in mind, even though.. dear, Joss is evil. Poor Inara ;__;

OMG I WANT THAT HOODIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
elliotsmelliot: Mad Men Joanelliotsmelliot on August 7th, 2009 06:27 pm (UTC)
My favourite episodes were Objects in Space and Ariel. I also really liked Out of Gas and the one where Wash and Mal get (ear!) tortured. Your review has made me wish my DVDs were not in storage for a month, so I could re-watch these.

While the show is over, it is fun to see the cast getting work in other roles. Nathan Fillion seems to be in everything these days. I recently saw Full Metal Jacket and was surprised to see Adam Baldwin had a big role. It's a small world, Saffron, aka the other Mrs. Reynold is Joan on Mad Men.

Even if I totally understood why Joss Whedon has the fame he has regarding killing characters.

He doesn't kill them in the quantity that Darlton so, but each of his deaths sting and have you asking why? Because I watched each of his shows after they aired, I was spoiled for each show's major Wash-like death, which helped, I think. RIP Wash, and your little dinosaurs.

I heard his new show Dollhouse got better. I watched the first few episodes and it didn't do anything for me. But I might give it another try.
the female ghost of tom joad: fireflyjanie_tangerine on August 9th, 2009 09:23 am (UTC)
Probably my favorites are Out Of Gas and the torture one + Our Mrs Renoylds and then I really like Ariel and Objects In Space, so I'd say we're even with that. ;)

Nathan Fillion is in everything, seriously. Apart from Lost and Dr Horrible, but I can't really complain. He's pretty good really. And what, Adam Baldwin was in FMJ? O_O I've seen that movie five times and didn't recognize him from the show, but I guess I can use that as an excuse to re-watch it again. *cough* And oh, so that's why Saffron was familiar... I had probably seen her in icons around.

I gathered that he doesn't do manslaughter like those two (which, well, good), but damn does he know how to make a death sting. I never followed Angel and/or Buffy closely enough to get attached or actually witness some dying going on, but this one just slain me.

I heard that Dollhouse was not so good at the beginning and then got better after, but I never checked it out so I wouldn't know. Maybe until it's still short I could give it a shot too.

OH MY GOD FIREFLY/SERENITY. Such a good show/movie. ♥ Except I loved Mal/Inara, and wasn't such a huge Kaylee/Simon fan until closer to the end. Other than that, boy were there some good episodes. I love Objects in Space / Out of Gas / Our Mrs Reynolds / Ariel / EVERY SINGLE FREAKING EPISODE.

Omgg though the deaths in Serenity were heartbreaking. I was kind of expecting Book's but WASHHH!!! It was so surprising, and so heartbreaking and Zoe :'

I loved LOVED Firefly and Serenity, I'm telling you that network just....every time I'd go to watch Firefly it was being moved around. It was a great show, Nathan rocked it and like Joss always did, you know a show is great when the female characters are strong but totally not annoying, I really liked all the characters on it.

And Serenity, I was spoiled for something at the end of it...you know what I'm talking about...and even though I had been, when I saw it on the big screen it still killed me.
the female ghost of tom joad: fireflyjanie_tangerine on August 9th, 2009 09:17 am (UTC)
Seriously about the network? Jesus. I mean, good way to promote your show, isn't it? And yeah, I loved pretty much everyone in there. Damn. It was too short.

And I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. ;__; I was so not expecting it but... I MEAN. ;__;
