couple film recs + other stuff
1. First thing of all, I hope everyone is doing great at the GFG in Vegas! ;) ♥

2. Second thing, tomorrow I'm going to grandparents' with my dad. Meaning leaving in the morning and getting back in the afternoon. I have this idea that it's totally not the best plan since he isn't even telling them that he's coming because he thinks my gran would start fretting out. Did I say my family is dysfunctional sometimes? *sigh* I don't want to know if tomorrow at this hour I'll be headdesking.

3. On to nicer things, I went to see some movies! Well, one not really recently, but I didn't rec it back then so... cutting even if I'll try not to spoil stuff.

a) Whatever Works: this was totally the proof that Barcelona is not the place for Woody Allen. I mean, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and the last ones shot in Europe were good (Match Point especially omg) but sorry Woody, you do better when in your element, aka NY. This was such a fun movie, which I needed because I had had a crap month when I saw it. There was some generally awesome acting, I could barely recognize Evan Rachel Wood, the Larry David guy is so fun I'm sad that his stuff doesn't air here and I'm probably the last one on the wagon, but Henry Cavill is hot stuff. That said, I totally enjoyed it. The snark was so the stuff I like when I go to some Allen movie and I think that the last twenty minutes are something priceless, lol. Not to mention the whole breaking-the-fourth-wall thing, but I'd totally recommend it.

b) Inglorious Basterds: this was all around awesome. Okay, if you don't like Tarantino you probably won't like it, but if you do? Awesome. Doesn't beat Kill Bill V2 *cough* but Jesus it was so worth it just to hear how much Brad Pitt and Eli Roth can butcher Italian, lol. Seriously, if the... er, extreme take on history events it has doesn't make you want to scream, it's totally a riot. The acting is pretty much stellar (everyone, especially the guy playing the Nazi even if I couldn't stand his face but it just means he did his work), I don't think I've ever like Brad Pitt so much in a movie and actually I was surprised at the relative lack of slaughtering. Right, there was quite the slaughtering going on, but nothing at the Kill Bill 1/Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs level. But seriously, God, the Italian butchering part is worth that movie alone. I think everyone died laughing in the cinema. And thankfully I've seen it in original... I don't want to think about how they could dub this. *shudders*

c) Taking Woodstock: awwww, I'm in love with this. Why isn't there a LJ comm for it? Why isn't anyone making icon? Because seriously, it was so good. Probably my favorite of the three. Apart from the plot being exactly the stuff I like (I mean, a movie about Woodstock? I'm so there), it has, not necessarily in importance order: a lovely story, a great comedic timing, awesome acting, kickass music, canon boykissing, canon threesomes, a lot of canon boytouching, hippies and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. What else can you ask for? ;) Though well, JDM was kind of an ass (the part I mean) but he still was awesome. And his voice. Mm. Though nothing beats Liev Schreiber crossdressing. Oh, so not. Also, I ♥ Emile Hirsch to tiny little pieces. I already did (after Into The Wild and Milk) but in here he was just so good and the part was kind of perfect for him and just, one of these days the guy is going to give me a serious crushing obsession. <3 Anyway, it was so good and you left the cinema feeling so happy, even if they did end on a pretty dark note if you knew what they were talking about *tries not to spoil*. Totally recommending it. And I need icons from it, dammit. Visually it was also so pretty, someone needs to do some.

4. I might have some book recs next round if as I suspect I end up finishing two books on the train tomorrow. *crosses fingers that I manage at least that*

5. I bought myself S1 of Deadwood because it was on sale.

Why can't I resist shiny things on sale? But I've been wanting to check it out for so much time, I figured I'd just go for it. Seems like I catch up better if it's on DVD than if it's downloaded anyway.

6. My classes are crowded this year. I started on Tuesday and I managed to find a seat once. I just hope the one I start on Monday isn't as crowded, duh.

7. And er, I have at least five tabs with posts I should answer. Will probably do it tomorrow evening. *is behind*

8. I was sure I had something else to say but it's two in the night and I obviously forgot it. Er, I'll start going since tomorrow I need to be up early-ish. *waves*

That scene was a riot. I guess that her it was especially riot-tastic, but that. It was such a good movie!!

Thanks! It was kind of meh but it's always like that when I'm there, so I wasn't expecting any less. ;)

Why can't I resist shiny things on sale?

LOOOOL. Don't even bother. It's like, "I don't reaaaally need this, but it's so cheap! How I can not get it?" It's amazing how well we're able to convince ourselves. I went out yesterday because I needed a new sports bra and almost ended up with three just because it was buy two, get one free. My girlfriend talked me down, luckily, before I spent triple what I wanted to. ;P

Shiny things are like, you can't resist them. Yeah, it's EXACTLY like that. I'm worse with records than with TV, but if I see it and it's cheap I need to have it. And LOL, totally what always happens with me!

Deadwood S1 is a great investment! I think you will love it!

Have a great trip!

First thing of all, I hope everyone is doing great at the GFG in Vegas! ;

Everything is great. I wish you were here!

Oh, I'm sure I will. It's exactly the thing I like, so.. ;) I'm excited to watch it!

Thanks! Er, it wasn't that much of a thing, but I took that into account. Blame trains always being late here.

Aw, I'm so glad you're having fun!! <3

Inglourious Basterds was pretty much flawless. I loved that Tarantino tried something completely new, while still paying tribute to films he loves. The cast was wonderful, especially the incredible Christoph Waltz.

It so was! I loved it to pieces and I really liked the whole idea behind it. Christoph Waltz was incredible, seriously.

Leave it to Tarantino to completely rewrite history. I love what he did and I loved the fantasy aspect he gave it by starting it off with, "Once upon a time, in Nazi-occupied France..."

Oooh, Deadwood! I hear that's an amazing show. And The Beav is in it, so, extra awesome. =D I'm the same way as you -- if I see TV on sale, I can't resist, and I'll get through it more quickly on DVD than if downloading.

*still crossing fingers that Taking Woodstock comes out here soon or is out on DVD soon so I just go buy it*

Deadwood is exactly the kind of thing I go crazy for. ;) Or I mean, I grew up with westerns and I just loved the premise when I read a summary. And yeah, Jim's in there too!! *is excited to see it*

I hope it does come out where you are soon! It's such a lovely movie, I think you'd totally like it. ;)
