I'm ALIVE!, and other stuff. Mostly writing stuff. And another beta request.
HAI EVERYONE! *waves from the hellhole aka the grandmother's place*

Okay, let's do bullet points, also because my internet is limited.

1. About the previous statement: I'm currently at the village in Sicily where my grandparents on my mother's side live. Unfortunately, it's usually hot as fuck and this year is freezing cold. Also, on the good side, I have internet at home because my mom has a key to connect. On the bad side, her job pays for the internet, which means that while I avoid the internet point, I can't stay long each time and I realized that checking the friendlist (except communities) isn't doable until I get back to civilization (which is, August 14th). Therefore, since I'd hate to miss stuff, if you post anything relevant (fic, your life, philosophical questions, whatever XD) link me, pretty please? Atm I can just check a couple of communities if I want to have time to answer comments and stuff, too. :/

2. On the other good side, I have time to read. I finished Robert Harris's The Ghost Writer in two days (mostly just because I wanted to see the movie) and King's Under The Dome in one setting while I was on the boat. It took me about seven hours but I couldn't put that thing down. I'll probably do some more serious review of that, but basically: it wasn't The Stand, but it was good. And the end was way less horrible than I feared, even if I had reservations. Also, none of my favorites died. I am deeply shocked by that. Now I need to tackle some Kafka and some thesis reading but since I've been staying holed up at home I guess I'll have read ten books by the time I'm out of here.

3. Also, my castielfest fic number 2 and my deancasbigbang are now edited! \o/ Having time is good. Also I finished my help_chile fic, too, but regarding that, Okay, so, it's slash, NC17, Eddie/Dean (the pun is totally intended) with implied unresolved Dean/Castiel even if the latter doesn't appear, it's post book seven so it has heavy spoilers for the ending and pretty much all of the series, and for SPN it goes AU from the last half of S5, more or less. Also, it's about 11000 words. Any takers? wandersfound, I can't ask you since it's for you, but I totally would have otherwise. ;). Now I'll see to tackle some late luau requests. Having time to write is good, seriously. Having a new netbook to do it with is heaven.

4. Apart from that, I'm bored to tears, but I always am whenever I'm here. Then I'm trying to convince both my grandmother and my aunt that I don't want to be social or get out of the house because I'm antisocial like that, but it isn't working that much. And I should write some thesis draft or finish the pedagogy stuff, but I guess I will manage since the most I did was going to the sea. And it was also crappy, but I hope it gets better tomorrow.

5. Okay, that's pretty much it for now. I'm afraid I don't have anything more interesting to share right this moment (I should upload my Edinburgh pics on the netbook, do a post there and then paste it from the one where the Internet is. Mh. I'll do that soon-ish, I hope), but please link me stuff! I want to stay on par. :) *waves*

6. ETA: for the three/four people who added me in the last five days: do you want me to add you back? Say hi! :) I swear I don't bite. ;)

I posted a fic for you for the Luau, for whenever you get back to the land of plentiful internet. :)

Sicily sounds like it would be so wonderful to visit, but I guess it all depends on your perspective - and whether one is visiting family.
the female ghost of tom joad: ILUjanie_tangerine on August 8th, 2010 12:51 pm (UTC)
.. OH, I SAW THAT AND I'M COPYING IT ON MY HARD-DRIVE AND READING IT AT LEAST TWICE. I saw the header and I squeed. Just so you know that. ;)

Sicily is wonderful, usually. Except that the place I'm in is: far from the sea, absolutely not worthy of a tourist guide and absolutely not near any place worth visiting and you can't go anywhere without a car. And I don't trust myself to drive since it's all narrow roads and curves *sigh*. Which is a pity because all the rest is great and the summer I actually went and saw all the rest of Sicily was absolutely one of the best vacations I had. Sadly crap places exist also in beautiful regions.. :/

Sicily IS beautiful. Just not my grandmother's place. ;) But oh, do visit! It's totally worth it. As long as you avoid the place I'm currently in, but it isn't really on tourist guides. ;)

Eeeee. You know, I'm totally excited about it too. Idk but I'm seriously proud of how it came out. Now if I don't manage to find a beta (which might be the case since you're the only other die-hard DT person on my fl) I'll just trust my gut and post it after revising. I hope it satisfies you! ;)

AND OMG OMG I WANT TO RE-READ THEM TOO BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY WITH ME. I CAN BELIEVE YOU ARE. AND DAMN IF I GET BACK IN CIVILIZATION BY THE TIME YOU'RE DOING THE WASTELANDS I'M RE-READING IT WITH YOU BECAUSE THAT'S MY FAVORITE AND I SUDDENLY WANT TO. XD <3333

John says your postcard got to the PO Box and he will be sending it to me next week. I hope you had a marvelous time! ♥ Thank you!

Limitied Internet is such a painful thing! D: I'm sorry, bb!

Don't be bored! I hope you find something to amuse you.

I haaate that. Limited internet is made of fail. :((

And ha, there isn't much usually, but I'll take the time to actually finish your hope_in_sight fic. Sorry about the indecent lateness, it's just that it's 16000 words now and I ended up re-writing all the last half of S5. :/ I suck at being brief, lol. ;)
bold_seer: coffeebold_seer on August 8th, 2010 04:15 pm (UTC)
I suck at being brief, lol

Sorry to butt in and I'm sort of busy right now and I'll probably comment more later - on a lot of stuff - but check out today's Luau request. I know you'll love it. ;)

I'VE SEEN THAT AND I HATE YOU FOR IT but I'll see to make you something. ;) ;)

Oh, don't even try; I know how you (secretly) love writing drabbles! <3

My aunt is fluent in Italian and has been to Sicily several times. I've never been there; you make the place sound so charming. :P

Guess what artist I should see perform tonight? Hint: it's not Springsteen. XD

Is someone going to see Leonard Cohen? ;)

And ha, well, wait, Sicily is awesome. You should totally visit. Just my grandmother's place isn't worth it, but then again there are crappy places everywhere, right? XD

:D

It was amazing. A very good Famous Blue Raincoat, btw.

Hang in there, dear.

Sorry about the indecent lateness
No worries! I understand, really! ^_^

*waves* Hiya! You might remember me from that Five Acts kink meme a couple of months ago. I'm here for the fic, basically... having the pairing comms on my Watch List was driving me nuts (too high volume, too much dross) so I'm trying something different - dropping them and adding all the people whose work I know I like, instead! I'll just be over in the corner there, feel free to ignore me. Or add me back if you like - I'm not exactly prolific so it won't clog up your Friends View.

Haaai there! And I do remember you from there! And I'll totally add you back, I don't want to ignore anyone. ;) I just want to know if I'm supposed to be friending or not, but that sounds good. And ha, my FL is clogged with communities already, I doubt friending more people will clog it further. ;)
elliotsmelliot: bookselliotsmelliot on August 8th, 2010 02:04 pm (UTC)
Any singing cousins?

I'm curious about Under the Dome, especially when the cover had a corgi on the cover. Plus the scenario sounds cool. I'm reading the Passage by a King-like writer. It is like The Stand meet the Mist meets the Road meets I am Legend.

I hope the rest of your trip is cooler and more compelling. Maybe Ian S. is vacationing nearby!
the female ghost of tom joad: booksjanie_tangerine on August 9th, 2010 12:52 pm (UTC)
Nah, the singing cousins are my dad's part of the family. The only cousin I have here atm is 24, so no worries about that. ;)

The Corgi actually plays a very fundamental part in the whole thing. And he's a cutie. And he's owned by a character in my top three. Also the book you're reading sounds interesting! *notes* Also always re Under The Dome, as long as you buy the premise of the ending it's actually not as bad as 85% of King's endings are, so that'd be a plus. ;)

Unfortunately I'm staying here until I get back to civilization, but apparently on my birthday we'll be going to some restaurant where they have excellent chocolate/tangerine liquor. Therefore I'm planning on breaking my I don't usuall like alcohol rule, and I'll just drown my boredom in that. Sounds like a plan, anyway. ;)

Ugh, I know all about crappy internet -my grandad recently cancelled his broadband and went back to dial up, so I feel your pain! I'm hoping he's done something about it for when I see him again which will be about 3 weeks away.

I'm hoping also to have something for you for the luau soon, but you'll probably be back by the time I'm ready to post. At the rate I'm going, I may be done by Christmas!
the female ghost of tom joad: lost boone dead but PRETTYjanie_tangerine on August 9th, 2010 12:53 pm (UTC)
Nooo, DIAL UP IS HELL! Thankfully my connection is better than that but... NOOO, DIAL UP, NOOO! IT'S EVIL. :(

And yay, thank you so much! :D And ha, I'm okay with it arriving at Christmas, really. ;)
Creature Of Hobbit: prettiertellshannon815 on August 11th, 2010 09:46 pm (UTC)
Yeah, on that subject, Grandad apparently hasn't done anything about getting broadband yet, but he said to me in all seriousness that he couldn't understand why he couldn't make a phone call while he was on the Internet! How quickly he forgets the hell that is dialup.

Yeah, some is better than nothing. ;) And ha. That. I mean, I usually am decently social but here I'm just not interested. I have reading to catch up with, lol.

Oh, go down there! It's mostly beautiful. My grandma's place is NOT, but it's not on tourist guides so you don't really have danger of ending up here. XD

It seems to me that you totally understood the priorities to check when coming to Italy. ;) ;) and Cuma is indeed so beautiful! That entire zone is. <3 And if you go to Sicily you have as much Greek stuff as you want, which is never bad. And try granita too if you come in summer, it's pretty much delicious.

And ha, yay for Borges! I'm making myself a culture, too, but at least that's a good thing. ;)
