birthdays + music + meme = your random post as usual
1. First thing, birthdays grab-bag since there's a bunch of people having some yesterday/today/tomorrow and seen my track record lately it isn't a given that I'll manage a post each day, lol. Also tomorrow I'll probably end up spamming with old fic or posting new stuff so I figure I'll do it now.

So, happy birtdhay in advance to: emiliglia and rock_chick_333 for tomorrow and aurilly and eide_oconrad for the 28th! ♥ I hope that you all have great days and the great years that you all totally deserve to get and that they're full of amazing things ♥. And if any of you wants to send a prompt my way I'll see what I can do after I go through my WIP folder. (which means you'll probably have a surprise like six months from now. *cough*)

2. Aand have some memes! First one, tagged by virtual_toast:

* People who have been tagged must write the answers on their blog and replace any question they dislike with a new, original question.
* Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.

1. Make a list of 5 things that you can see without getting up.
An Atwood book, my gloves, my mp3 player, my printer, a scarf.

2. How many times have you changed your hairstyle in the past five years?
Blah, practically not at all because the only thing I wanted was to make it grow without much success. And after dying my hair when I was sixteen with seriously scarring results, I won't do it again for ages. XD

3. What is your favourite article of clothing (that you own) and why?
Mmmmh probably the first Springsteen shirt I bought at my first Springsteen concert? It's comfy and good for all seasons. ;) I'm also very fond of a pink dress I bought last summer though. xD

4. What's your occupation?
Uni student, former librarian at said uni (not now though, and I don't know if I miss it).

5. What is one thing you believe in and why?
Good question to ask me since I'm pretty cynical when I want to. xD I don't know, I'd like to say human race because as bad as we can get at times you see stuff that makes you think that there's always hope, but I'm convinced of that just half of the time. And I don't believe in superior forces or anything. But I do believe in taking everything without too much seriousness. (And on always looking at the bright side of life, which isn't even my phrasing but it does cover it.)

6. What's your favourite guilty pleasure treat?
Keith Urban.

7. What are you thinking about right now?
I SHOULD FINISH FIC UGH but yesterday I finished two and gave a boost to another, so not too bad. Also cross-stitching is hard, when you're allergic to whatever needles are made of. (Yeah, yeah, possible present for someone going at JIB which will kill my hands.)

8. Write the first word that comes to mind.

(Mostly because I'm listening to Beatallica and it's Hey Dude, so XD)

9. Do you have any pets? Did you have any growing up?
No and no. Too many books around for pets to stay comfortably. Also my parents aren't pets people.

10. If you came across $2,000 (or other currency) would you keep it or turn it in?
I'm too nice. I'd turn it in, especially if I found a wallet with a name or something.

11. What was the last thing that you bought?
A dress yesterday along with a bunch of cross-stitching equipment.

12. What other countries have you been to (if any)?
Mmh. *Thinks* France, Germany, Austria, England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia (just St. Petersburg though, not anywhere else), Belgium, Netherlands, Vatican City (sorry, IT'S A COUNTRY).

13. Where do you see yourself in five minutes?
Finishing to write this entry. If you mean five minutes after I post this, trying to finish other fic or stitching.

14. Last book you've read?
Kurt Vonnegut's Jailbird.

15. What are you doing this weekend?
It's Sunday and I'm not doing anything special. Next weekend I'll maybe go out with a friend and possibly cross-stitch some more.

16. What is your song of choice RIGHT NOW? The one you select when you kick off your playlist in the morning or whenever.
Never Let Go by Tom Waits. I'm in a bad Waits phase right now.

17. Favourite movie of the last six months?
Of Men and Gods, hands down. Also it was a travesty that it wasn't even running for the best foreign movie at the Oscars.

18. What are you doing tomorrow?
Uni in the morning, then either I go to yoga or I write fic or both, unless the books I ordered online arrive. Because in that case I'll just spend the afternoon reading or something.

19. Which part of this year are you looking forward to the most?

Mostly because after that everything I know is examsexamsexams.

20. What scares you the most and why?
My PM. Re why, have you looked at him/his crime record? Then you should know.

3. Theeen, music meme. elliotsmelliot gave me R and joyyjpg gave me C.

Comment with "MUSIC ME", I'll give you a letter between A-Z, and you go post 5 8 (because I say so) favorite songs/music videos that start with that letter.

1. Creep, Stone Temple Pilots: or, totally in my top ten STP songs ever. It gives me chills years after hearing it for the first time, and I'll still maintain that Scott Weiland might not be the best human being ever but writes lyrics like a pro.
2. Candy's Room, Bruce Springsteen: or, just listen to it. It's totally one of my Bruce favorites, and the day I heard it live it was an highlight.
3. Changing of the Guards, Bob Dylan: or, one of my favorites from him in the 70s. I love the lyrics. And Patti Smith agrees with me since she covered it. ;)
4. Change of Time, Josh Ritter: haha this is all wandersfound's fault for hooking me up on his music but the guy is seriously good. And this song is absolutely lovely.
5. Chances, John Frusciante: or my favorite John Frusciante song. The last stanza has some of his best lyrics ever. And I just love the music even if it's very short.
6. Christmas in Washington, Steve Earle: STEVE EARLE MY LOVE or hi you couldn't miss your usual Steve Earle song when I make a list. I love this one. And the lyrics are great and I want to marry them.
7. Christmas TV, Slow Club: I knew this one from the Chuck soundtrack and I really like it. It has lovely lyrics, the music is great and I really like that it's two singers with lovely matching voices.
8. Come Together, Beatles: or, not my favorite Beatles song but it's there in my top fifteen. And say whatever you want but the original is still better than any cover they might have done out of it.

1. Rain Dogs, Tom Waits: totally in my Waits top ten. I just love everything about this. The music totally fits the lyrics and his voice as well and I don't know but whenever I hear it I find it hard to believe I'm not in front of some seedy bar with rain over my head. xD
2. Red Right Hand, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: or, this might be one of the creepiest songs ever written but in the good way because it's a masterpiece. The lyrics are something out of this world and they match the music so perfectly. And it just gets under your skin.
3. Redemption Song, Johnny Cash & Joe Strummer: best cover that will ever exist. End of story.
4. Ramblin' Man, Allman Brothers Band: do I need to explain this one? Classics are classics. ;)
5. Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, Warren Zevon: or it might not be my favorite Zevon song (or not even my R-favorite song from Zevon), but the lyrics of this thing are pure genius. Anytime I hear it I just shake my head being like 'how did he even THINK this shit up'.
6. River Runs Dry, Bon Jovi: or, demo that was on the box-set which will show you that BJ can do some seriously kickass music if you thought they didn't. ;)
7. Rescue, Lucinda Williams: I'm so in love with this. I love how rough her voice sounds in it while she keeps it in tone with how bleak the song is. Also the music is utterly bleak as well but I just love the overall effect.
8. Room Without Love, Nils Lofgren: or my favorite Nils song probably. He's good. He really is. The fact that he plays for Bruce is a plus. ;)

4. Life has been fairly uneventful lately. The fact that I don't go to the cinema anymore because the huge one giving movies in original language with subtitles has closed just made it even less eventful, and going like once each month when I manage feels massively weird. Though I've been reading a bunch of stuff which is fairly good at least because I'm actually finishing books instead of starting too many and not finishing anything.

5. Also my favorite class this year includes doing group work (eeeek!), except that no one else wants to work on the article I volunteered for. I just hope it's a question of subject, but tbh while I hate group work I don't even want to explain shit about ancient greek philosophy on my own or at least without someone to share the blame with if I say crap. xD Also I have to stop myself from snorting whenever Anaximander is mentioned, which is becoming a problem. Also last day we were supposed to download a program while in class -- the speed was 6.6 kbs per second. Obviously no one managed. Clearly universities can't afford a decent wireless..

6. Also uhm how is everyone doing with notifications? Because I'm sure I received a huge backlog but not a bunch from the first three days of the fiasco. Am I the only one? *looks around*

7. Anyway, going to work on a post about stuff to do/see in Rome which I had promised to some JIB-headed friends and possibly finish some more fic and feeling like I'm not slacking off while masterfully avoiding to think about the group work possible fiasco.
feeling: blahblah

I want to play!

I've stopped going to the cinema because the tickets got too expensive. It's as if they want me to find alternative ways of watching movies. I miss reading books so much, but if movie tickers are expensive, books are way out of my budget. I want to buy new books so bad, even if I won't have the time to read.

I hate group projects so much. You always end up doing most of the work and stressing out because no one else seems to care.

I got a few older notifications, but none from the first few days.
the female ghost of tom joad: ILUjanie_tangerine on March 27th, 2011 05:23 pm (UTC)
Then I'm giving you.... uhm, F! :D

Tickets aren't -too- expensive here yet, or at least if you go to the early showings you pay about 2/3 of a ticket so it's doable-ish (for now, lol), but the point is that I'd rather download stuff than see it dubbed AND download it to see what I'm missing. :/ But yeah it's like they force you to do stuff the other way. *sigh*

I usually hate group projects like burning, but I don't really want to take the responisibility to teach forty people about atomist philosophers without anyone backing me up. X__X and uhm, me too so I guess they're still not over it. Idiots.
Creature Of Hobbit: damon salvatoretellshannon815 on March 27th, 2011 05:55 pm (UTC)
Notifications - seem to be okay at the moment, but some of the old ones I missed never did arrive.

Good luck with the group work!
the female ghost of tom joadjanie_tangerine on March 27th, 2011 07:06 pm (UTC)
Yeah I'm getting them and I got most since like the end of the first week, but I'm still missing the first four days so I figured it's that as well.

Thanks! I just hope it works out. X_X

*steals meme*

with a bunch of cross-stitching equipment

I'm impressed. (I'm useless at things like that.)

Changing of the Guards, Bob Dylan: or, one of my favorites from him in the 70s. I love the lyrics.

IKR? Plus I like how it kind of - just goes on and on. It's (more than) a bit similar to All Along the Watchtower in (more than) that sense. Anyway, one of my favourites of his.

Group work! Good luck!

No, I did not get the trial paid account just to delete that extra at. I'm not that OCD. Really.

Lol, I'm trying to stitch a pillow. Until now I'm just checking if I can actually stitch letters. So far it's decent, lol. Then again last year I chain-stitched letters making them up and it came out good, so let's hope I manage. But don't overestimate me, if it's stuff like knitting or making clothes or stuff I'm totally out of my depth.

I love that song so much! :D and yeah, that, except that I like it better than Watchtower. ;)

Thanks! And ha, editing comments = POOOWEEERRRR.

6. What's your favourite guilty pleasure treat?
Keith Urban.

You're dead to me.

..kidding, kidding! XDD

Ick, I hate group work too. I'd prefer to just do the work myself, that way I count on my own merits to succeed or fail. I hope it works out for you!
the female ghost of tom joad: ILUjanie_tangerine on March 27th, 2011 10:58 pm (UTC)

Lol really I don't exactly want to like him but IT'S SUCH CATCHY CHEESE. But I'd get why it'd mean my metaphorical death lolol.

Yeah I hate it as well but it's a case where since it'd be two people, three at most maybe it'd be less awful than when it's like six people and just one works. *cough* Idk on one side it's better and on the other since it's goddamn philosophy and it's a bunch of stuff maybe I'd like to hand half of it to someone else. We'll see I guess.

I know? It deserved all possible awards just for that dinner scene alone but it was a masterpiece and it was a travesty that they ignored it that way. But go Europe for pulling that out. ;)

I am curious, what is your cross-stiching project?

I might be trying to plan to go to St-Petersburt (a lifelong dream to be honest). what did you think? how was that trip?

and oh wow, the convention is almost there!
the female ghost of tom joad: misha collinsjanie_tangerine on March 28th, 2011 07:30 am (UTC)
First: a pillow. With Dr Badass is in on one side and Dr Badass is out on the other one. I'm not too faithful in my abilities but I shall try!

Oooh do it! It's a great city and I had an amazing time there, though there are some techcnical difficulties, mostly that since from what I gathered most people go there with a tour they have the guide who does all the talking, so people don't exactly speak much English and if you go on your own (aka me + parents) it might be a trifle difficult, but apart from that and drivers that are possibly worse than Italian ones it's 100% worth it. Especially going to the Ermitage was fantastic but I loved the entire thing. (Uhm, if you wanna see pics I think I have a St. Petersburg tag, I did that post like four years ago but it should still be there.)

IT IS! I'M SHIVERING IN ANTICIPATON. (mostly of the Misha meet and greet lololol.)

Do it, it's good! Or well, it's not like Bob Dylan can be utterly bad but that's a pretty great song if you ask me. ;)

Awww, thanks for the bday wishes! <3

How much do I love that you love Stone Temple Pilots? There is no music like alternative 90s rock. God, I love them.

You're welcome! ♥

And STP? Love them fiercely. One of my favorite bands indeed. And sadly utterly underrated in this continent. But yeah, word on that.

Indeed! Might be that I'm smack in the middle of a omgIneedtoreadVonnegutstuff phase but that's totally one of my favorites of his. I think I finished it in one day or so which didn't happen with shorter stuff of his that I read. Anyway I thought it was great. :)
