stuff + moar on that game of thrones thing
1. So, second final went exactly opposite first final, which means that I couldn't have aced it more if I tried. Now if the third goes as the second, it might be awesome.

2. I'm seeing Bon Jovi in two weeks. ITEM ONE FROM MY BUCKET LIST ABOUT TO BE CROSSED. :DDD

3. Now, since I'm having finals I'm like, I shouldn't watch TV. Which doesn't mean I haven't seen Leverage, which is damn good to have back. Also, summer show! It's nice to have something to look forward during the summer. The premiere was lovely for team interactions, but I didn't exactly got involved in the scam. This week was good even if not awesomeness level, but I liked the whole set up a lot. Which also means that my icon doesn't mean that I actually watched Game of Thrones - will do that after finals because it needs my full attention.

3. BUT, since I couldn't resist and I needed a break, I spent the weekend reading A Clash of Kings.

The good

- JON! <3333333333 aw, will that poor boy ever have something going his way? ;____; it takes him two books to get nicely settled at the wall and NOW HE'S TORN AWAY FROM IT? :(((((

by the way, I still ship Jon/Sam like burning. Just. HOW SO ADORABLE. Sam's mancrush on Jon is so ridiculous it makes me weep in joy. Seriously, WHY NO FIC AROUND PEOPLE? WHYYY.

Now I just want to see how the heck GRRM deals with his storyline. Oh Jon. <33

- Tyrion! Yeah, another one who could have something nice going his way. He's totally my favorite Lannister by the way. I mostly like that he schemes but in a way that doesn't make you want to shoot him. Also oh dear now he's half-scarred? Like he needed it. Anyway, every chapter of his was so glorious I could weep.

- Sansa. I wasn't that sold on the first book but poor girl. She won me over. Also I have to respect her for surviving that long in that nest of vipers. (and for not spitting in Joffrey's face.)

Also, dear moral compass, you're fucked. I ship Sansa/Hound with the force of a whole lot of things. Every time they have a scene I'm like THIS SHIP IS SO GLORIOUS I COULD WEEP. Also I foresee that her escape plan isn't ever going to work, but one hopes. Arya was also awesome. I love that girl. And seriously, she might be ten but she's tough. Also Arya/Gendry = match made in heaven?

- STARKS IN GENERAL. Okay, could do without Rickon, but then again he's a kid, whatever. I kinda like Bran's storyline. I want to see where it goes. Also if GRRM ever kills Hodor I'll weep.

- The magic trinity of the new people: Davos/Brienne/Asha. I love the three of them but I think that Asha is my favorite. That girl is as fierce as her brother isn't, but this doesn't belong here. Brienne is badass. And Davos has BRAINS. Which is more than enough for me to like you. I'd also like Stannis but until he gets rid of his lovely priestess... also he's MIA right? I doubt he'd die now.

- Catelyn... more or less. Or at least, I'm still not over Jon, but I learned to like her. She has guts, nothing to say about that.

- Jaime. Who was in there for like twenty pages, but he was awesome. Or better: he wasn't AWESOME per se, but I just really like that he owns to what he does. I like that he's all like 'yeah, I pushed your kid off the window because he saw me fucking my sister' but that he doesn't even want to deny it at the same time. I like charming bastards who own their actions, I guess. Also errr I'm spoiled for one thing and I guess I know how it happens now...

- DAENERYS. YOU'RE AMAZING. END OF STORY. Also I apparently like all the people whose name ends with Mormont in these books. Alllriiight.

The bad

- Dear Cersei: I don't get you. There are times when you CAN be interesting (IE when she had that conversation with Sansa during the battle and said a lot of true things about how well you fare in that society if you're a woman), but most of the times she's there scheming (badly - because Tyrion spent the entire book outscheming her), slapping people and making me want to at least appreciate her but I can't. I mean, idek but 80% of the time she's the flattest main character of this entire thing and the remaining 20% she's actually interesting. DECIDE, GIRL. I can appreciate morally gray people, but being all like 'MY KID IS AWESOME *SLAPSLAP* doesn't make me want to try.

WINTERFEEEELLLL. ;__________________________; I cried a bit at the end. I just - I'M TEAM STARK ALL THE WAY OKAY, THAT HURT. The idea that Ned might not even get buried there... ;_________________;

- Melisandre: dear girl, I won't weep a single tear if you go away. Without any thanks, me.

The Ugly

- .... Theon, seriously? Just, really? I hope that he's dead. Is he dead? Because if he isn't and I have to stand through another book of his stupid POVs centered around what's in his legs I'll want to strangle something. Such a prissy little stupid jerk. HOW DID HE EVEN - WINTERFELL. I'M NEVER FORGIVING HIM. His sister is awesome though. Only redeeming feature. Such a stupid - and when it actually looked like Bran and Rickon were killed I felt bile for a second before remembering that in these cases if you don't see the body it didn't happen. ETA: I take this back entirely. In light of a subsequent book an in light of the fact that when I read ACOK I went through it in basically three days and missed half of the implied things, I'm covering my head with ash and formerly ask forgiveness. I had totally missed the point of everything he does in that book. And if I had to write this review today it'd be along pretty much opposite lines, disregard everything I said about disliking Theon or him deserving horrible things.

- Okay, this isn't exactly THE UGLY but I didn't know where to put it. WTF is that with people seeing Renly beating Stannis when it was The Other Lannister With A Brain, as I call Tywin? I mean, collective hallucination? Is that explained? Is that a spoiler so I shouldn't even ask? Wth?

- Joffrey has to go. SOMETIME SOON. Possibly with Robb beheading him. Such a little stupid psycho. There's a reason I grew a respect for Sansa. And there's a reason that the bit where Tyrion slapped him so hard that the crown flew from his head was the most satisfying single line in this book. xD between him and Theon I was almost missing Viserys. Aaaah well.

- Stannis' wife. Uuugh. Can she just go along with Lysa and her creepy whiny kid?

What I really want to know:

- Will we ever learn what happened to Ben Stark? And if yes, can he please command the zombie army? (yeaaaah, right. Though really if you read through the entire thing just tell me yes or no, lol.)

- Is Jon ever getting out of the hole he's in? And most of all, will I get my ship back in the same place at some point soon?

- I've been told a bunch of times that next book will probably make me want to throw it against a wall and stop getting attached to anyone. Fair enough, even if I think I like enough people that even if next round is a bloodbath SOMEONE I like is going to survive. Is someone that I'd really like to go going, at least?

- Bran, what's gonna happen with you? Mostly, Osha going with Rickon means that I finally get Osha POVs (because she's awesome), that I get Rickon POVs (which I could do without) or that they disappear until book four (and well, if it means I get some Robb back I won't be the one to complain)?

- When I'm finished with this, will I actually spend 30 euros to get book five or will I manage to wait until the paperback is out?

I fear I won't like the answer to each question in half of the cases. But damn this thing IS awesome.

4. There might be fic coming sometime tomorrow. Maybe. If I can edit some things. Hopefully I will. Also it took me half an hour to write all that ASOIF stuff, which means it's 1.30 AM, which means the rest I had planned for this entry will be in the next one because I can barely see straight after reading, uuuhm, like, 600 pages in ten hours. I take my reading very seriously, don't I.

Lol. I finished the third book today. I STARTED LIKE A WEEK AND A HALF AGO. If you do it it'll eat your life. But they're good. For now. XD

the female ghost of tom joad: tangerinesjanie_tangerine on July 6th, 2011 07:40 pm (UTC)
Giulia: Dark Angele0wyn on July 6th, 2011 09:56 pm (UTC)
Guarda, penso siano anche più di 8 perchè un libro era diviso addirittura in tre parti se non sbaglio XD Cmq per fortuna ho trovato anch'io una bella offerta a 24 € o giù di lì per tutti e quattro ^___^

Re: the Bon Jovi gig - your first time seeing them? How exciting! But take advice from one who knows, and PACE YOURSELF. I used to go see them pretty regularly, and they believe in value for money for their fans. This translates to a Bon Jovi set length averaging TWO-AND-A-HALF TO THREE HOURS. That is a long, long time to be jumping around squeeing, so don't exhaust yourself in the first hour or you won't have any squee left by the time the third set of encores rolls around. XDDD

Also - they take a few songs to get into it, so count on the first fifteen minutes sucking ass sound-wise. When they hit their stride, though? One of the best live bands out there. Have tons of fun!!
the female ghost of tom joad: jooooon ammorejanie_tangerine on July 5th, 2011 04:43 pm (UTC)
Yep! And I've been wanting to see them since I was eleven so figure out how much I'm actually hoping for these stupid two weeks to be over. XD And OHHH AWESOME. And haha I did two Springsteen + E Street Band concerts which basically are three and a half hours and one of those times I sat down for maybe five minutes so I should have enough stamina to resist. BUT UHM YES THREE HOURS I CAN GET BEHIND THAT XD and thanks! I fully intend to enjoy it until the last second.

*flails* so much ASOIAF goodness!

basically, there's all kinds of death coming soon (there's some "worse than death" coming, too)
the female ghost of tom joad: GoTjanie_tangerine on July 5th, 2011 04:45 pm (UTC)
And there's more to come! ;)

Okay. I'm spiritually prepared about people that I don't want to die biting it - nothing can be worse than That Thing That Happened In The Last Dark Tower Book anyway, but knowing that someone I dislike bites it is good. Because there are people I need gone. ;) and oh dear WHAT. I know about That Thing Which Isn't Dying happening to Jaime, but I had no idea it was someone else too. *shudders*
The Cleaveragekel_reiley on July 5th, 2011 04:58 pm (UTC)
which thing? i gotta say, i wasn't overly thrilled with the last 3 DT books on the whole, but i kinda loved the ending

ps - living on a prayer just came up on shuffle ;)
the female ghost of tom joad: dark tower >> rolandjanie_tangerine on July 5th, 2011 05:02 pm (UTC)

You know when in the middle of the seventh a certain person bit it a minute AFTER surviving a battle and it took them twenty pages to actually die? Suffices to say that when my mom came home two hours after I had got to that point she asked me if someone had died in real life and she's still saying that I freaked her out. XD and hee, I liked five and six (six mostly for the unrepentant Roland/Eddie goodness), and the first half of seven, but I hated the last half. Regarding the ending I could have worked with it but the epilogue is still something I could slap SK for. ;)

It's destiny!
The Cleaveragekel_reiley on July 5th, 2011 05:07 pm (UTC)
ah yes, THAT thing :(((((((((((((

i really do need to do a reread, but then if i start i'll want to reread all the books with loose tie-ins to DT and that's, like, everything he's ever written!

I had to go back and read your ASOIF reactions!

FYI, there is no fic because GRRM is one of those fic-hating authors and so people don't write fic about his books out of respect for his wishes.

Now that the HBO series has aired though, there is a kink meme based on that: http://gameofkink.livejournal.com/. Series based only, no book canon.

I really disliked Theon in this book, which sucked because he had not been a bad character in GoT. He stuck by Robb, had decent relationships with the Starks. Sure, he was resentful and self-serving, but the twist he underwent in CoK bummed me out.

I feel exactly the same about Cersei. I find her pretty one-dimensional and therefore boring, most of the time.

I agree about Sansa/The Hound. Now there was a ship with potential!

Of course, none of your questions will be answered in ways that you like and none of the storylines will go where you expect them to go. Such the way with these books.

I have Dance with Dragons pre-ordered on Amazon. There was no way I could wait for paperback!
the female ghost of tom joad: asoif >> ending!janie_tangerine on July 11th, 2011 03:24 pm (UTC)
My reactions are strong ones! ;)

I knew re the GRRM being anti-fic thing, so I figured I could look on the only show-related one I found. (and thanks for the show kink meme link! *goes to look without shame*) Then I searched around bit and found some book-based stuff - it's mostly in locked comms though, or in locked posts in comms whose name isn't ASOIF based, but I totally understand it. It's not even that much but there's enough for the two ships I ship so I'm not complaining. My quibbles about that particular pairing is just that there's none of that in the show-based comm I followed and in the locked ones either. :(( I think they're adorable but apparently no one goes there. :(

I didn't dislike Theon that much at first either even if he did seem like a bit of a dick. Then... yeah.

Oh, one-dimensional, that's exactly the word I was searching for! I don't mind them being questionable people, but the one-dimensional thing, I can't get over it. Pity because she has potential but... boring.

Sansa/Hound was great! And well, her misremembering that he kissed her at some point later was also... uuuh. Well, not bad if you shipped it. ;)

One book later, I got one answered! [two if we count that in SOS two people I loathed bit it. We can make it three, actually.] Well, good enough I guess. But from what I gather there's no Osha and Rickon in book four either and that kind of baffles me. I'm not particularly attached to either but one would think that they'd be important enough not to randomly have them going off, right?

I think I'll buy it too. I know I won't be able to stop myself. I'm trying to find a way to pay it less than thirty euros though.
Zelda: GoT - Watcher on the Wallzelda_zee on July 11th, 2011 03:37 pm (UTC)
Yeah, Rickon just disappears. I could imagine that he's just lost and never heard from again, but I hope that's not the case. Ditto, Benjen Stark. I want to know what happened to him!

Have you met my huge ASOIF crush yet? The totally fierce, hotass, bisexual Red Viper? I can't recall if he's in SoS or FoC, but he's totally my crush - I'd ship him with anyone. If I was gonna write fic, it'd be Oberyn/Jaime. I can totally imagine a story for them.

Jaime got more interesting to me as time went on, though I never developed the affection for him that a lot of people seem to have. Like you with Catelyn and Jon, I have never been able to forgive Jaime for what he did to Bran - and I don't think I ever will. He has been through the wringer though and I am intrigued by what will happen to him now that he's lost his ability to fight and his relationship with his horrid sister. He has potential to develop, I think, if he lives long enough.

Which, as you know is a big 'if' in these books!
the female ghost of tom joad: asoif >> i dreamed of youjanie_tangerine on July 11th, 2011 03:51 pm (UTC)
That sounds weird O__o I mean, I get that there's a ton of people, but come on. Kid's a Stark! He has a direwolf! I can't help thinking that it's kind of a big thing to overlook. And WORD re Benjen Stark! A friend of mine has a theory that he's Coldhands. Could work. And would be interesting. But yeah, where the heck is he?

OH YES I DID! And Jaime/Oberyn would be GLORIOUS. Ohmygod it's such a delicious image, and yes, Oberyn was just totally and absolutely amazing. And fierce. And very shippable!

I think I got sortofmostly over the Jon thing with Cat by SOS, or at least I enjoyed her POVs enough even if I never really forgot that - and didn't appreciate her thoughts re Robb saying Jon should inherit. Then eeeeh. I'm not sure I like the last incarnation though... and regarding Jaime, I do like him a lot (surely over his siter!) an I guess I just have a thing for charming bastards with a sense of humor, though I prefer him a lot after he loses the hand. (It also is that I loved his bantering/moments with Brienne and kind of really ship it, but that's beyond the point.) Also I don't approve of him dropping Bran out of the window, but I think I can get over it - mostly because I realized that someone in the Dark Tower did the same thing (and it was a bit worse for a number of reasons, though it wasn't with the same consequences) and I did let that one go. And yeah, WORD re the loss of his horrid sister. I'm really excited to see where it goes. :D But I totally get not being over it - the window-dropping was horrid.

And hahahaha indeed! I can only hope he survives because the redemptive death would be the obvious course. ;)

I miss your incredibly detailed and hilarious LOST reviews. This is filling the gap! I'm much slower than you with the reading, but each time I finish a book, I will come back to your reviews.

I kept thinking about you in terms of Robb's mysterious absence. Oh, he's invincible, but also apparently invisible.

Dear Cersei: I don't get you.

Me too. I hope we get a POV in the future because I don't get her blindness to how terrible Joffrey is as a king. Does she have a plan to control him?

Or better: he wasn't AWESOME per se, but I just really like that he owns to what he does.

This! While Cersei denies everything, Jamie is pretty open about his intentions and deeds. I loved, loved, loved his scene with Cat. I hope we get a scene in the future where Jamie and Tyrion reunite.

Also if GRRM ever kills Hodor I'll weep.

The magic trinity of the new people: Davos/Brienne/Asha.

I love them too!

I think you've caught up with the books. Will you watch S1?
the female ghost of tom joad: asoif >> ending!janie_tangerine on August 11th, 2011 06:39 pm (UTC)
I guess it's my style? ;) glad it's still good for entertainment though! :D and I can't wait to hear your reactions to the others. :D

Oh, Robb, why so absent indeed. Also Cersei does get a POV in the future, but for me it didn't exactly make her more likable. While Jaime kept on getting more awesome, but yeah, most of the reason I always liked Jaime in the first place is that he doesn't pretend to be anything other than what he is. I can appreciate that at least.

Hodor can't die! It'd be the ultimate cruelty.

Also heee, since I read another of those books I completely changed my opinion on Theon so if I had to write this review now that bit would be totally different, but that magic trinity only got better since Brienne is my favorite ever after Robb now and Davos is hovering between third and fourth place most of the time.

I'm watching S1 next week! I'm going to my grandmother's in Sicily and since I'll have no internet and time to kill I plan on saving it for when I get there. Or for the trip there if I can't resist. Also because all the casting news for S2 that I'm getting are making me a very happy fangirl.
