rl things + game of thrones (the show, finally!)
1. Hii. Entry that wasn't a show reaction, I missed you. Anyway, I've done that exam from hell that got postponed for about four times and I'm not cramming anymore, and I'm done wanting to strangle whoever is in charge of study plans at my university, so I should be fairly more around. Hopefully.

2. In good news: I'm going to Paris from december 3rd to december 7th. In slightly less good news I'm going alone because I couldn't find anyone to go with, but considering that this year I spent half of my not-so-long-stretch of vacation time with either chicken pox or dealing with rotting-tooth-related headaches I had a moment of 'damn I need a vacation before this year is over'. And at least I was early enough and the plane tickets were totally cheap. Now I just have to find myself a room and I'm set. I so can't wait to take that break really.

3. In other news: I finally managed to watch Game of Thrones! :D It only took me.... five months. To start, because then I finished it in four days, but still. I figured I should do it before classes end and I have the next exams batch. I'll try not to spoil for the books but in case it'll be marked.

General opinion: I loved it! :D I do have a couple of quibbles/things that I didn't like but overall I thought it was incredibly well-done.

What I liked:

THE CASTING. Gosh, how is everyone so good? Everyone in the Stark corner was so spot-on I could weep. (Richard Madden, thanks for perfectly matching my idea of Robb if he was aged up. Thank you. Really. I COULD HAVE WEPT. I might have.) Arya/Bran/Sansa were PERFECT. They all so nailed it. The kid playing Rickon obviously got the book treatment (or: everyone remembers he exists... rarely enough), but he looked awesome too. Michelle Fairley is FLAWLESS. And well when I read the book I had imagined Ned with Sean Bean's face anyway since he was there on the cover and I so really enjoyed his performance too.

Also: THE GUY PLAYING THEON, PEOPLE, I DON'T EVEN. Okay this is... a very in retrospective thing because this round he really wasn't -major-, but gosh he's going to blow it out of the park next season. He has the mannerism/tone down pat and I really REALLY like how they stressed that he's in love with Robb his friendship with Robb that much. Uuugh I don't want to spoil so I'll shut up but this guy will make me weep all of next season. (Yes, I just wrote an entire paragraph about Theon whom I used to hate. Er. SHUTTING UP NOW I HAVE REASONS.)

Wall speaking: MY LOVE IS IMMENSE. I've probably stated around that the Wall is pretty much my favorite place around there for a lot of reasons, first of which they don't bother with mindfucking politics bullshit, but OH MY GOD MY LOVE. The actor playing Jon is GOOD and his curls are delicious, the guy playing Sam is everything I could have wanted (and SERIOUSLY they're totally not toning down how Jon and Sam are soulmates. GOOD), and gosh everyone else totally fits my mind-casting. :DDDD

Lannisters: NICOLAJ COSTER-WALDEAU MAKES ME HAPPY EVERY TIME HE'S ON SCREEN. He's just - TOTALLY SO PERFECT. My love for Jaime, let me show it from second number one. I just - every time he opened his mouth/was around I was like 'YOU MAKE ME HAPPY AND YOU WILL MAKE ME EVEN HAPPIER'.Peter Dinklage deserved that Emmy. Lena Headley is GOOD. Actually I think I like show!Cersei a lot more than book!Cersei but more on that later. The kid playing Joffrey is too good for this world. Well, in the sense that I want to strangle him as hard as his book counterpart so I guess it counts.

Everyone else: Bronn/Littlefinger/Varys were all SO WELL CAST I wanted to weep in joy. I really liked the actress playing Daenerys even if that storyline is the only one I more or less have quibbles with. Also: Jorah Mormont was never supposed to be that hot but PLEASE BRING IT ON. Iain Glen I'd do... a number of things to you. *cough* Sandor was spot-on too even if I think he should look a lot more scarred than he is. Also whoever played Lysa... well, she's good since my strangling feelings are the same as Joffrey's. Whoever read the books more or less knows what I'm waiting for now. Oh, and special mention for the guy playing Viserys because while I still do not like the character, he actually made me feel sorry for him when he bit it. Which in the book didn't happen. So, kudos. Extra special mention for Barristan because YES, that was awesome casting too.

What I liked about what they changed: most of it. I loved most of the scenes they added (with a couple exceptions....). I can get behind Joffrey kissing Sansa (actually in retrospective it WORKS), I liked that scene with Tywin and Jaime even if they could have done without the skinned stag, I liked that Ned and Cat actually, like, hugged/kissed/whatever before Cat left King's Landing and... I WON'T BE THE ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT RENLY AND LORAS BEING CANON. Everything re Robb and Theon that wasn't in the books WAS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME WITH ME. ACTUALLY IT WAS MORE THAN AWESOME. (Also I don't remember right now if it was in the books, but that scene when Ned wants to send back Sansa and Arya and the former is like 'I need to marry Joffrey and bear him X number of children!' and Arya looks at her and is like 'SEVEN HELLS' I might have burst out laughing like crazy. Then I was like 'WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS IT'S TRAGIC', but whatever.) I also liked how they managed to give us the entire backstory (Rhaegar/Lyanna/Aerys etcetcetc) without it feeling like overexposition most times.

What I didn't like about what they changed: mainly: was that really necessary to have Drogo basically raping Daenerys when in the book the thing that actually made it work was that IT WAS AS CONSENSUAL AS IT COULD GET? Actually it was a problem for me because while in the books I could totally buy that Daenerys would genuinely be in love with him in the show I was... less convinced. I mean I could get behind it but not as much as I once had. Also re the Daenerys part I kind of felt like they could have taken it slower most times because for some reason I felt like something in there was lacking. But I can't exactly pinpoint what. Maybe it's just post-ADWD feelings re where it ends up and it's just me though. I don't know, I think they rushed too much in the beginning. In the book it had taken GRRM two chapters to get Dany married and you knew everything that was going inside her head, here it was done in fifteen minutes? Tho hey they have ten episodes, they couldn't have done it much better. XD Second thing I didn't like: Littlefinger gossiping to Sansa about Sandor's backstory. I still hope that there's a scene when he tells her himself because in the book it was... I don't want to say his defining moment, but definitely the moment where I started being interested. And shipping them. Er. Third thing I didn't like: I won't go and say that Ros was entirely pointless mostly because of that lovely full frontal of Theon's, but what was the point of Littlefinger blathering about his love for Cat while she and the other whore had sex? Other than bore me to pieces since I like sex when I actually give a shit about at least one of the people having it? Same goes for Maester Pycelle blathering all his dilemmas at Ros too, though at least it was just the aftermath. I mean, I get why everyone says that it was gratuitous boobs exposing. :/// Also: I really, really don't feel the actress playing Shae. In my head she had an entirely different face and... hhhhmmm. Okay, this is just for who has read the books, but: the way she acts, I can't help thinking that she isn't selling what she's supposed to sell. If I explained myself. For the rest, no complains. The one scene that I'd have wanted to see that they cut was Robb telling Bran that they'd go to see the Wall together at some point while not managing not to cry, which was when I pretty much fell for book!Robb, but I guess they didn't strictly need it. They also could have used the direwolves more since you.. like, didn't TRULY get how important they are with the few screentime they got, but I guess filming with that kind of dogs is a problem.

Also: WHY NO BLACKFISH? I knew he wasn't gonna be in S1, but... :((( I love the Blackfish, dammit.

Actually, special kudos for the showrunners: show!Cersei >>>> book!Cersei. I mean I won't ever be a Cersei fangirl, she's definitely not my thing, but while in the books my Cersei feelings are generally along the lines of 'boring, boring, BORING, yawn, WAIT YOU COULD GET INTERESTING, ouch craaazyyyyyy, boring, boring, yawn, craaazyyyy, damn I don't get her' at least in here I can actually see what's the appeal since she actually has some depth. And I appreciated that she had that extra scene with Robert. And I really like Lena Headey's approach to the character. (She makes some stunning bitchfaces.)

For the record: I cried when Ned died. (Yes, I'm hopeless. I actually KNEW before I read the book.) I also cried when Robb woke Bran and left Winterfell. And when Lady was killed. And when Robb was about to skin that tree. Hhhmmmm I apparently cry when Starks suffer. Good for me. (Not really.) I also was like... half-weeping and half laughing hysterically when they named Robb king in the north. And everything else I have to say about me having weeping fits would mean book spoilers so not going there.

Also, I still haven't decided about my favorite episode but it's definitely one out of the last three. When I first saw The Pointy End I was like OMG THAT'S IT, but then I saw the other two and I'm seriously undecided. Fire and Blood should at least have honorable mentions because of a) King in the North scene, b) Sansa/Joffrey/Sandor scene, c) Jaime and Cat's talk (THERE'S NO MEN LIKE ME!), d) Tywin recognizing that Tyrion has a brain, e) Jon's friends bringing him back to the Wall. But Baelor had some awesome stuff going on as well. And The Pointy End's only fault was that you didn't see Jaime. Mmh I'll pick one at some point. Least favorite was definitely the one with the Littlefinger sexposition.

But seriously apart from the aforementioned things I LOVED IT ALL. (and after seeing this I'm even more baffled that Jon/Sam doesn't get written more. Same for Robb/Theon. And I'm talking in purely show-wise terms. WHY! Seeing Jon/Sam being soulmates on screen was the best thing ever! Oh well.) And now I sadly don't have anymore Westeros until April. (But then I'll have live action Brienne. CAN'T WAIT.) But I also can write fic using it as a reference which is good. Well, at least for stuff that doesn't go farther than book one. XD Aaand I'm probably done, but let me just state for the last time that Richard Madden has all of my love.

4. Woah that was a novel. I'll try to keep the rest short. So, good/bad news: Misha Collins will be back on my tv (yay!) but it'll be on Ringer (which means I can't quit it as I was kind of thinking because seriously the more I watch that show the more I don't get if they're really assuming that anyone would buy what happens or if they're just trying to be a soap opera not airing daily). Ah well, if it means he's in a scene with Maybelline Craphole Island I'll weep in joy and start writing Richard/Cas fic. Or something.

5. I'm on a good trac with mini_nanowrimo, except that I'm not writing the things I should write. IE exchange fics. I also fear that 90% of what I'm using those 400 words each day with won't see the light of the day, but at least I'm writing daily. Which is good. I should do it also when it's not a challenge.

6. Aaand that was it about strictly updating. And since I need to get back in the swing of things, meme I've seen around. And I haven't done it in years, so.. why not. Here it goes.

Name a fandom I participate in/have participated in and I'll list my three most unpopular opinions about it.

7. And now I shall go do my mininano count before crashing. Good times. I need to stop this writing at two AM thing, my grammar isn't better off for it.

Hee hee, I've had a lot of ~feelings~ about GoT as well - came for Drogo and his shirt allergy, staying for Tyrion, Dany and Cersei (but mostly Tyrion).

Unlike everyone else, I don't really see the big deal about Jon and Robb and Theon - Jon is kind of a whiny little bitch and Robb is just... bland. (Their looks don't do much for me either, but I'd happily take Benjen Stark and Khal Drogo on a sexual tour of the world - I'm an odd duck, I admit it). The real draws in this show/ book series are the kickass women who would end your shit if you crossed them. (Even though I don't love Sansa like everyone else does - again, she's always seemed a little bland to me.) But Catelyn, Arya, Daenerys and Cersei are all awesome. At first (not having read the books) I had dismissed Dany as yet another useless eyecandy blonde to keep the horny fanboys occupied, oh God this will be like Heroes shoving Claire and Niki and Kring's blonde fetish down our thro - wait, is she thumping her asshole brother on the head with a belt and threatening him?! Is she watching like it's no big deal as he dies a messy death after threatening her?! Is she setting the witch who killed her husband and kid on FIRE?! Is she being a badass?! Sold! Also, Bran is a little cutiepie.

In general, with the exception of Tyrion and his snark, I find the women characters in GoT and ASoIAF more interesting than the men, which is refreshing.

Oh! Shae's actress was in this film that was ~award winning~ a while back, about a Turkish - German couple self-destructing. It was called Head On (Gegen Die Wand) and we had to watch it for my German language class... it bored the shit out of me, the character she was playing there wasn't "connectable" either. I mean, I understand that we weren't supposed to admire her, but damn girl! You should have stuck to porn. Which is why when watching the show you don't get why Tyrion cares so much, he could have any whore in Westeros and he sticks with her. So that's where the show and casting kind of went off the rails a little.

I hadn't read the books before watching the show, and when I got to the Dany and Drogo's wedding night in Game of Thrones I braced myself, only to wonder what the fuck the show was thinking. But overall, it's a great show and a great book series, and I can't wait for it to come back. (Hopefully they won't screw up Brienne by making her a ~smoking hottie~ and completely missing the point, if they get Ali Larter or something to play her I will SCREAM.)

Lol I went and checked the first book to see if I should try the show.

Five months later I check it out and meanwhile I READ THE OTHER FOUR. Way to do it well, self. XD

Heee well Robb is like my favorite but he's... exactly my type. I mean the typical character I latch to is usually someone that isn't given much space in the original medium (in the books he doesn't have a POV once), who is put in a position with a bunch of decisions to take and who tries to be a good person in like.. spite of everything. And I like that kind of character because since they don't have POVs I feel like they aren't being represented so I feel like I should see what makes them tick and it happens that I like hopelessly honorable people. But I fell for book!Robb before anything else. Show!Robb is delicious. Also I like gingers. ;) Jon.. well, I generally like him. Mostly because I also happen to sorta have things in common with Sam so if Sam likes him I automatically like too. But I think he's interesting in his own right.. even if he can be so emo that you want to tug on those curls and put some sense into him. XD (Theon for me is... and entirely other thing. And entirely book-based. Idk how far you are so I'll keep very very very vague but basically I spent a lot of time hating him and then shit happened and I realized that I had basically rushed through his stuff in the second book without understanding shit and that he was far more complex than I had given him credit for. And mostly: he has an arc that is basically the embodiment of my Favorite Literary Trope Ever. I don't mind the actor being hot but Theon's appeal for me is entirely based on other reasons. XD)

LOOOL WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT DANY. XDDD Though in her defense she was pretty badass for the beginning. ;) And hee I'll take Sansa over Cersei because while I don't necessarily dislike bad people I find book!Cersei more flat than... pretty much 85% of the other pov characters and we never clicked, but totally agreeing on everyone else that you mentioned. (Actually my favorite character would be Brienne which I find more interesting than everyone else put together, but I wasn't gonna rant about Brienne in a show-related post since I was trying not to talk about the books XD) (And Bran is adorable. I want to squiiishhh him.)

Oh Tyrion, you and your snark. <3 (my favorite Lannister stays Jaime though. I think. I'm too fond of his storyline. And his snark is more at my level. XD) I do appreciate that the women in here are awesome. So very much. Actually it's been ages since my favorite character somewhere was a woman (again, not in the series yet, but XD).

Yeah, that. I just... don't see what's so special. Or, well, I could see what so special, her face fits the description, but I don't think she's acting it the right way. Maybe if I hadn't read what happens later I'd have less quibbles... but I just don't really like that approach.

I have no idea what the show was thinking either then tbh. I mean it wasn't going to take them more than a minute to have it being consensual! I'll never get why they went and changed it. But yeah overall I'm totally satisfied with it. ;D

(heee do not fear. They casted her. That actress is like, 1.91 mt. Body-wise, she's PERFECT also because she has huge enough shoulders. And she has two lovely baby blues that are totally Brienne. Then again she isn't, like, UGLY-ugly in the professional pics around/she does look lovely in those, but that'd be obvious since they're for promotion. Without make-up she definitely isn't what you'd call standard pretty. And if they use make-up wisely and ugly her up enough it's practically done. And according to casting she went to read with the ugly make-up she put on herself lol. Can't wait to see her in action. That stated she totally isn't the kind of Ali Larter hot, that's for sure...)
The Cleaveragekel_reiley on November 12th, 2011 01:36 am (UTC)
was that really necessary to have Drogo basically raping Daenerys when in the book the thing that actually made it work was that IT WAS AS CONSENSUAL AS IT COULD GET? THIS THIS THIS! they totally ruined that scene :(

The sexposition to whores was also super annoying. Littlefinger is WAY SMARTER than that, to go tell everything to anyone! Bleh.

Other than those things, I mostly loved it. And all the casting was brilliantly spot-on.
the female ghost of tom joad: asoiaf >> robb 3.0janie_tangerine on November 12th, 2011 01:50 am (UTC)
I don't even get why it was necessary O___o the point of it was that HE ACTUALLY WASN'T A TOTAL BRUTE AND THAT HE DIDN'T OUTRIGHT HAVE SEX WITH HER EVEN UNTIL SHE WANTED HIM TO! And I'd get why she'd fall for him after. Whyyyyythehell they thought it'd be necessary to change it, I don't know.

Pff. Boring. I don't get why Littlefinger would spill to the whores either. Or Pycelle too. Whores of Westeros for the Iron Throne indeed, with all the info they're collecting..... and still, I like my porn with a context. That wasn't a context.

But yeah apart from that everything was aweeesooomeee :DDD

YAY, Paris! I'm so glad you're getting your vacation :D. I've been to Paris this year, and I still regret that it was just one day.

The Starks are made of awesome, full stop. Especially Robb and Arya. But I'm ready to love Sansa to bits next season, because only then the girl who plays her will get to do all the juicy stuff. I can't wait!

The only thing I hated about Harry Lloyd playing Viserys is that it was such a waste to have such an amazing actor playing a character who just dies in s1. WHY SHOW WHY?

I had the same Dany/Drogo feelings. In the book, I actually like this ship. But here? What the hell with the rape?

Good luck with your mininano! Also: behaving like a grown-up and sleeping at night instead of writing / catching up with flist? OVERRATED.

Now, MEME. Let's have TVD, shall we?
the female ghost of tom joad: the vampire porn damon 2.0janie_tangerine on November 12th, 2011 02:12 am (UTC)
I really, REALLY wanted to just leave the country for a bit. ;) thanks! :DD I'm so excited!

I know? Gosh I love them all. Robb = favorite forever, but word on all the rest. Geez I can't wait for the S2 Sansa stuff. I. CANNOT. WAIT.

it was such a waste to have such an amazing actor playing a character who just dies in s1. WHY SHOW WHY?

I KNOW? Maybe they needed a good actor to actually make the character at least half-likable (when I read the book I didn't really sympathize with him once), but it was such a waste. Then again... I felt sorry for Viserys! I thought it couldn't ever happen!

In the book I was on board with it because it wasn't what you expected from that trope. I liked that it was plausible that she'd fall for him and that he'd see her as more than someone to have a kid with. In the show I just don't get what they're trying to imply. And I can't buy that she'd fall for him that eagerly...

Thanks! :D I'm just writing stuff at random but at some point I will use it for the things I should use it for. And ABSOLUTELY. SLEEPING AT NIGHT. TRAVESTY.

Aaaand sure!

1) I love Elena. Like, a LOT. Usually if I don't read horrible things because she apparently cheats on everyone with everyone else, everyone is like 'meh she's the bland version of Buffy'. Now it might be that I never watched Buffy regularly but I just don't see it. I think she's an excellent lead. She isn't boring, she has a BRAIN, she doesn't live for her boyfriend even if she loves him. What's not to love?

2) Keeping on that line: I love Bonnie to pieces, I don't get 90% of the hate she gets and the next time I hear she's a selfish bitch I'll strangle someone. Also: she's smarter than half of the people in there and I'm not making lists or we'd end up the day after tomorrow, but she really needs less hating and more appreciating.

3) Mmmh other unpopular opinion... it's not that I DON'T like Elijah (I DO like him, and I'd have him over Klaus any second) but I don't get the OMG MASSIVE fandom love he gets. Like, in most of the fic comms I follow these days 75% of the fic posted is Elijah/insert-your-favorite-here and while the guy IS cool and badass and I'd totally like to have him back I'm not sure I entirely get the appeal. (Or people being like 'I'd rather have him over insert-name-of-a-regular-character-here' still kicking around. Idk. I'm not sure I'd have him over any of the regulars. Except Klaus.)

It's interesting to read the reaction of someone who came to the books first and recently and then watched the series. It must be satisfying to almost 100% of the casting please you. I look forward to going back and re-watching S1, now that I have read the first few books.

I agree that HBO!Cersei is better than the book version. I hope you can get the most out of Robb's scenes. I really don't get the Drogo rape scene. Given where they take the story so soon, it makes no sense to start that way.
the female ghost of tom joad: asoiaf >> robb 3.0janie_tangerine on November 13th, 2011 02:00 am (UTC)
Oh it is! :D really the only casting I don't like is Shae. Which means that either I'll suffer a lot or I'll have to learn to like it, but everyone else was totally so well-cast, I was seriously impressed.

HBO!Cersei was definitely an improvement. And... eeeh, tell me that. *glares at GRRM* though apparently at least next season they're actually showing him doing everything that it was said he was doing while he was MIA in book two, which means that I'll have a bunch of Robb that I'll never get from the books. Totally not complaining! And exactly. I just don't see the reasoning behind making it non-consensual. It just made harder to buy it. (And actually in the book I had appreciated that everyone would have expected it to be non consensual - Dany included - and it wasn't. Ah well.)
Lou: ASOIF Jaime thronegottalovev on November 12th, 2011 03:44 am (UTC)
it's really cool to read your reactions to the show post books... I read the books first too, but they were pretty far away since it has been forever. But I thought the casting was FANTASTIC all across the board and that they made a great job in bringing that brick into only 10 episodes. In the first episodes I was cooing at Jaime - he's my favorite, god I love him - and I'd read the reactions of people just watching the show and kept telling myself that THEY DIDN'T GET HIM YET. lol!

My only problem was Ned, because I had a total different mental image. But everyone else? awesome. Especially the Lannisters and the Stark children. I even found myself almost liking Cat, whom I can't stand in the books. Same for Viserys. But some I really loved to despise (all the awards to that kid playing Joff, I wanted to strangle him myself). I'm with you with a bit too much sexposition, the Dany/Drogo scene and not enough direwolves, but apart from that I was so pleased. it could have been a disaster.

can't wait for S2!
the female ghost of tom joad: asoiaf >> jaime 2.0janie_tangerine on November 12th, 2011 09:18 am (UTC)
Oh, the cooing at Jaime so totally happened here too. I love his face. And his questionable manners. And everything that comes out of his mouth. I think that if we don't count Robb he's been the one I've liked most steadily from beginning until now since there's never been a wavering in ALL THE FEELINGS I HAVE FOR HIS FACE. ;) But yeah the casting was SO good. And I had the entire thing pretty fresh so I can just applaud the casting director.

Lol I might have had one if the show hadn't started already when I got into the books. And my GOT copy has like Sean Bean's face smacked right over it so I think my brain just processed him. And the Stark children were PERFECT. And hee I came to like Cat after GOT, I wasn't her biggest fan in there either, but coming from a point where I did learn to like her I totally enjoyed how they went with her. Viserys... I didn't exactly -like- him but if that guy made me feel sorry for him when he died he needs all the awards really. XD The sexposition was.. stupid. (Also why always women? GIVE US SOME MEN SEXPOSITION IF YOU REALLY NEED TO. >___>) And I just don't get what they were trying to do with Dany/Drogo, but the rest I totally have to bow in front of how good it came out.

Me too! (BRIENNE! Sorry. Probably favorite female character ever existed. I might be a tad too excited.)

2. BB, I would totally go to Paris with you. I mean, except that I already live across the ocean and am entirely too broke to make the trip, but IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS. Have fun! :D

4. Eh, as much as I want Misha back on my TV, I probably won't actually watch it. Unless, like...I just happen to be off that night? And I don't forget? I dunno. Misha on some other show is a poor substitue for Castiel, CW. But FYI, you should totally write Cas/Richard fic anyway. <333

5. I'm not writing the things I should write. + I also fear that 90% of what I'm using those 400 words each day with won't see the light of the day
We are doing mini_nano exactly the same way. I don't know why -- I have a couple of WIPs that I really do want to write and list of awesome prompts for holiday fics, but none of them are cooperating right now. Instead, last night I started an AU supposed-to-be PWP that will probably go nowhere/never get posted. WHAT IS LIFE.

6. For the meme: LOST!

2. it counts <333333333333333333333 but yeah I'm just really excited to.. take some time off NOT IN ITALY.

4. Since I was sticking for Richard Alpert I'll just endure it until Misha gets there, watch it and then I'll probably drop it because that show is too bad/stupid for my taste. And I'd like to write Cas/Richard.. IF I GOT IDEAS FOR IT. Maybe if they share a scene it might happen. XD

5. Heeee BRAIN TWINS! ;) ugh I have the same thing happening and instead I just write random UBER ANGSTY things from the pov of a character from asoiaf/game of thrones who pretty much 99% of fandom/readers (including me) hated until the fifth book came out (and then we all realized that we were idiots and he was OMG COMPLEX AND ANGST AND BEAUTY and I think he reminds me of Castiel INCLUDING the Godstiel trauma *facepalm*), and while I'm not even sure they make sense, I'm not even sure I should bother with posting them because I'd end up spoiling most of the fl who didn't get that far yet. MY WRITING PROBLEMS. XD

Aaand sure!

1) I love Jack. Genuinely. Like, top five characters. I don't get the Jack hate. And damn while I have grown to affectionately like using jears, I never understood what was so funny about his crying. Or pointless. Okay, let's not count Stranger in a Strange Land, but. Also I appreciated that he was the only person who was always consistent. Then he might have been unlikable (even if I liked him) but that said I just don't get the Jack hate.

2) .... well, that Boone was always my favorite forever and ever and in the centuries? XD most casual watchers I talk to (not going into fandom, who thankfully liked him generally more) are like '... seriously, WHAT WAS EVEN HIS POINT' whenever I say it. At which I'm always like 'how do I sum up the indecent number of pages of meta I wrote about what was his point in a sentence', and I give it up.

3) I never liked Ben. Or well: I liked him when he was pseudo Henry Gale, I never enjoyed the character since he became the Evil Mastermind and they decided to make S3/S4 the Ben show. I do like Michael Emerson a lot but half of the time I feel like they did a number of things just for the sake of his character and considering WHO he was... I'd really, REALLY would have like best if they had concentrated on the good old regulars.

And then they totally sidetracked him like snapping their fingers and I went like WHAT.

Re: Misha being on Ringer - my thoughts exactly! I started off watching this because it looked semi-interesting, but it's really deteriorated in quality, but...now I've gotta wait until at least episode 14, lol.

Also: Richard/Cas fic would be awesome! An angel could totally have interacted with an ageless guy, right? ;)

And yay Paris! I hope you have fun - and I've always wanted to do a solo trip like that, so I think it'll be a good experience!
the female ghost of tom joad: lost richardjanie_tangerine on November 13th, 2011 01:52 am (UTC)
I'm like... Misha, WHY DO YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME REASONS NOT TO QUIT THAT THING? XD tbh it's not even my kind of show at all - I only stick for agent Eyelashes - and I think that it's the worst thing I've ever consciously chosen to watch consistently, but since Misha's going to be there... I guess I'll stick until it happens. I doubt that it'll get better since I like exactly two characters none of which is the lead, but we'll see...

I've been wanting to go Richard/Cas for ages. Heck, I wrote Cas/Jacob once! Sadly I have no ideas whatsoever for those other two. But I'd totally write it if I had a good idea.

Thanks! :DD I've already been there on my own when I was on studying vacations there (then I learned more English than French, but whatever XD), but I'm really really looking forward to just going there, chill out and take some time off.

Okay, for anyone reading here: THIS COMMENT IS GOING TO HAVE BOOK SPOILERS, skip at will.

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I SURVIVED IT. It's kind of... well, on one side it's horrible because I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS LATER and when Theon swore his sword to Robb I pretty much broke out in a weepfest, but then (okay I'm putting this in white bc it's ADWD spoilers so I don't want to risk anyone not there already reading it, but if you're spoiled for it already and don't care just highlight XD) IN ADWD THERE'S THEON BASICALLY SPELLING IT OUT THAT THE ONLY PERSON HE EVER LOVED IN HIS LIFE, LIKE GENUINELY LOVED, WAS ROBB AND HE'S LIKE 'I SHOULD HAVE DIED WITH HIM TWO BOOKS AGO AND HE WAS THE ONLY REAL BROTHER I EVER HAD AND BASICALLY I STARTED WITH RETROACTIVE SHIPPING and whenever they were in the same scene I was like I WON'T SURVIVE THIS and I'm not so sure that I'll survive next season, but whatever. THAT SHIP IS JUST - okay I'm stopping this rant. XD Also next season I'll probably seem insane because my love for Theon will totally seem out of place but whatever. I'm ready. XD

... mmmmh, that actually DOES work. I wouldn't have even thought about seeing that scene in that way but it totally makes sense. I can't help thinking that it was pretty tasteless. Or well, it was probably supposed to be tasteless. It does perfectly work with the foreshadowing though, but meh. Doesn't help that knowing what happens later Littlefinger isn't in my top ten characters... XD

I KNOW ABOUT THE HORRIBLY PAINFUL FORESHADOWING. SERIOUSLY WHEN ROBB LEFT BRAN AT WINTERFELL I HAD A WEEPFEST THAT WAS TOTALLY BECAUSE OF FORESHADOWING but most times I was just trying not to think about it. (Except when Walder Frey was on because I was being like 'GO DIE NOW'. Yeah well, I'm never going to be over it. XD) And yeah I appreciated that they gave us more of the characters background (especially Cersei - not that I care about her but it's a question of principle. At least I know where she comes from! More or less..). Gosh the only thing that isn't making me cry is Jon/Sam EXCEPT THAT IF I WAS LESS OPTIMISTIC I SHOULD CRY BECAUSE OF THAT TOO. *glares at GRRM*

Littlefinger spilling about Sandor in retrospective is the thing that I don't like that I actually get - I mean I can see why they did it (while I'll never see why they had to change the Dany/Drogo thing) - and it SO does work. As a shipper I still want Sandor telling Sansa himself though. I mean, they probably won't do it because it'd be repeating information we know already but apart from that nothing forbids it. Mostly I loved that scene HARD so I was really hoping they'd keep it. (Then again they gave me ALL THE ROBB/THEON IN EXISTENCE so I'll forgive them.) Also I'll now go to your journal. XD

I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ALIVE. Then again if I had died now I'd have been deprived of ACTUALLY SEEING THE PERFECTION THAT IS JAIME/BRIENNE AND THAT WILL HAPPEN AT SOME POINT so I'll have to stay alive just for that. I can die at the end of S3. ;) ;) ;)

I didn't even realise you hadn't watched the show! Until now, that is. Anyway. The porn in ep seven or sth was awkward to watch. The Pointy End and Fire and Blood are definitely the best eps. I think I went from it's good, yeah at the beginning of the season to IT'S GOOD, YEAH at the end of it, which is, well, good.

Michelle Fairley is great; the cast as a whole is great, but especially Cat (made me like her A LOT), Dany (made me like her more, when I've never been that invested in her storyline) and Arya. Cersei is quite different on the show. Took me a while to get used to Sansa, because it feels like she acts out (I just realised I don't care) more than in the books, where she's spoilt, but essentially polite. Maybe that just shows it's been a long time since I read/skimmed through the first book. And obviously they can't convey a character's thoughts, so it has to be through dialogue, and then you've got many more factors - instructions in the script, actor's delivery... IDK. Sean Bean wasn't really what I imagined Ned to be originally. They've aged up the children, but just like with the adult generation in the Harry Potter films (there isn't a good example in a fandom we share, I think?), they've also aged Cat and Ned's generation, which kind of works because they're good actors and we believe in them, but kind of doesn't if you actually start thinking about the timeline (of what happened before the series); then the ages they seem to be make zero sense. Maybe it's so cold in the North they look 10, 15, 20 years older? New theory. But don't get me wrong, I'm pleased they picked Sean Bean and Michelle Fairley, again, yay!

Dany/Drogo, otoh, they made so much more problematic. For no reason whatsoever. I think I read the reviews before I watched the pilot and I still expected there to be some kind of a yes. And what was up with virtually ignoring Sandor all season? Do they like Aidan Gillen more?

I LOVE THE BLACKFISH. I'm still waiting for him to eventually appear. Eventually.

LotR, unpopular opinions?
the female ghost of tom joad: lotrjanie_tangerine on November 12th, 2011 11:48 pm (UTC)
Lol it's probably because I talk about asoiaf half of the time and I also had pretty much seen what happened in... like, most graphics on Tumblr around so I might have faked it good enough. ;)

I just loved Michelle Fairley so much. She so totally nailed it! I started liking Cat more towards mid book two so I didn't much care for her in one, but I just really like what she did with it. My problem with Dany is that I read ADWD, oops XD so basically I watched it being like 'YEAH AWESOME, BUT..' and it wasn't a good thing because that part was objectively done well EXCEPT for the goddarn Dany/Drogo thing which I just don't GET. Re Sansa maybe they made her act out to make her more sympathetic? I never needed Sansa to be more sympathetic but since a bunch of people hate her for some reasons I'll never really understand...

Re Sean Bean I guess that since I've read the first book after the show was done and I had seen his face everywhere I just assumed that he had the right face except that the book!Ned was younger but still, his delivery was excellent. I guess it's kinda like the actor playing Theon - he doesn't exactly look like I had imagined him but geez he NAILS it so much that I totally bought it. (And ha lol don't worry, I'm one of the three people in the western hemisphere who hasn't read HP but all of my friends did/do so I gotwhat you mean XD). Also yeah, MORE SANDOR please. And possibly more burned. THe actor works great, but I still think he should be more scarred. Heck, weren't you supposed to see a bit of bone? XD

THE BLACKFIIISSSSH <333333333333333 FAVORITE TULLY EVER.

Mmmh I've never been THAT much into LOTr fandom so I'm basing this on the opinions I don't share with ALL of my friends who are into it. XD

1) I love Frodo. Like, seriously love him. Top five characters love. But everyone I meet is like 'are you insane he's insufferable'. Me: ;_____; I think I like honorable doomed people or something.

2) Out of humans/hobbits/elves/dwarves, the elves were totally the ones interesting me less. Not that I hate any of them or anything but I never was much into the entire 'OMG ELVES ARE THE BEST THING ABOUT LOTR' thing. Also I never got why the world shipped Aragorn/Legolas. Movie wise I get it, book wise I never really saw it.

3) I was outraged that they cut Beregond from the movies. I LOVE BEREGOND. TO PIECES.

... except that whenever I tell it to other people, even if they read the books, the general answer is 'who?'. And I'm like 'THAT GUY WHO SAVED FARAMIR'S LOVELY ASS, TECHNICALLY'. And everyone; 'duh I don't remember it.' Me: ';_____________;' I can't be the only person that remembers that he exists!

Jon is awesome! ;) ;) I already loved him before so this just cemented it, but yeah count me in. And I know? Jon/Sam is like.. pretty much my happy place in there. Which says all lololol. And srsly when Sam went like 'well I wanted to be a wizard' I died. Sam you're priceless.

Oh me neither. Sansa is totally my second favorite girl in there (favorite girl happens next season) and I love her story and I love EVERYTHING about her and what you say. I don't get why people don't like her as much as they should.

Thanks! :DDD I was undecided, then I realized that I haven't taken a proper vacation since July 2010 and I was like 'JUST BOOK THAT TICKET.' ;) I can't wait!

I feel like the only person in the world not reading/watching Game of Thrones. :(( I'll probably catch up once it's out on dvd, but I just don't have time for live tv anymore except once a week on Thursday. :((

For the meme, how about SPN or Lost? Whichever you feel like talking about. :P

And for the record, I'm on board with Richard/Cas fic. YES PLZ. :DD
the female ghost of tom joad: supernatural dean/cas <3janie_tangerine on November 12th, 2011 11:57 pm (UTC)
Waaatchhhh iiiittt. Even if it's like, ANGST. piled over angst. Well, okay, I'm talking books, the show isn't still there yet. XD

I'd like to write Richard/Cas, but it's the kind of ship that I'd love to try but for which I don't have a single plot bunny...

Aaand since someone else up there asked for LOST (answering them in a bit) I'll got for SPN. ;)

1) Dean and/or Sam singularly never were my favorite characters. The line was John/Ash/Castiel, but for some reason neither of them ever was my Favorite Character with the capital F and C. And in theory I like Dean better out of the two, but whenever my current favorite isn't around because they're dead or MISSING (see S3 and S7) I actually like Sam better than him.

Idek.

2) I didn't miss the MOTW thing in S4/5/6 and now that they're mostly back to it I'm not weeping in joy at all. Mostly a formula for me works for two seasons at most and then I start being bored (except for the X-Files, but that's why they always had a mytharc.. XD). Which does compute since I'm not S3's biggest fan but when 4 started and they dropped the MOTW (mostly) I started loving the entire thing. I do realize it's very unpopular. XD

3) I don't entirely dislike the killer racist truck episode. I mean, it's not the best they ever did, but I don't get why people say it's the worst episode they ever put out. I'd have given it a 6/10. B-side to this one: I don't get why everyone gets head over heels for Faith, which was a good episode but from there to OMG PERFECT EXCEPTIONAL BEST EPISODE EVER AT LEAST OF S1... I just didn't particularly like it. XD

Oooh, Paris! I wish I could go with you! I've never been, but it's on my bucket list. Even alone, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. You can do whatever you want, you don't have to get dragged to places by anyone else! =D

MTE about Misha on Ringer. YOU'RE TOO GOOD FOR THIS SHOWWWW, MISHA. I was hoping to give it up soon too, but looks like that ain't happening now. But at least there's the potential SPN/Lost OTP-ness to look forward to, like you said. ;)

Well, I'm always willing to go twice in case. ;) also I went for it also because I've been there already and I know it fairly well, so I don't have to do crazy tourism and I can just hang out and go to artsy movies and chill out. Which I really need to do before this year is over. And exactly! I don't have to do anything I don't feel like at least.

Meeeeeeeeeeeeh. Seriously. I just sort of selfishly hope it's a one time deal because I really want to quit it XD but OH MY HE NEEDS TO HAVE SCENES WITH NESTOR SO WE CAN FILE IT UNDER THE LOST/SPN OTP-NESS.

Wait, you watched Game of Thrones for the first time? Damn, how did you manage to stay away from it, if it was procrastination then my procrastination skills have now been SHAMED FOR LIFE.

I WANT BLACKFISH ON THE SHOW GDI. I am too lazy to make a detailed comment about anything so I'll just generally agree with you. Looooved season 1, ridiculously excited for season 2.

And I have to say I completely agree with you about Dany and Drogo. HBO did a huge mistake changing their wedding night from a rather sweet scene to a pretty terrible one, and I for one didn't really connect with them until I actually read the book.
the female ghost of tom joad: GoT >> perfect ship is perfectjanie_tangerine on November 13th, 2011 01:47 am (UTC)
Heeeeeeeeeeeee yes. XDD It was partly procrastination and partly rest. I mean I was like: okay, I'm reading the book, if I like it I'll watch the show and read the rest'. Then OOOPS I got hooked and instead of watching the show I read the other three. Conveniently I finished AFFC the week ADWD was out so I was like you know what, let's read ADWD. Then I spent July with teeth related headaches so I was like 'okay, procrastination, let's watch it at my grandma's since I have no internet so plenty of catch up time.' Where I caught chickenpox and couldn't concentrate on anything. Then BAM holidays were over and I had exams/school/other exams and I ended up watching it now. Idk how much of that is procrastination because I could have totally found a moment to watch it before now, but. XD

I KNOW. THE BLACKFISH NEEDS TO BE ON THERE. I miissss his face. He needs to be in S2. For which I'm totally ridic excited and oh shit I'm already bracing for me waxing lyrical about Theon being flawlessly flawed (if it even makes sense). I fear that I won't have much company. XD

Uuuuuggghhhh I know? Having read the book first it was such a letdown. The one reason I bought it in the book was that IT WAS SWEET/CONSENSUAL. Or as consensual as it could get. I just don't see what was the reasoning in him raping her. WHY. Executive, consensual sex isn't that bad, y'know... but yeah if I had seen the show first I totally would have spent that season thinking that Dany had a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome going on. :|

I loved reading your GoT thoughts! They did such wonderful things with Robb on the show in s1 and I can't wait to see what they have planned for him in s2 since he was only in CoK for five minutes. And ITA agree about show!Cersei, Headley is selling the hell out of that role. She makes me feel for Cersei so much more than GRRM does.

Seriously, s2 can't get here soon enough. I need to see Arya and Gendry on the road and Asha teasing Theon and BRIENNE. I want to see live action Brienne so much, I can't even say.
the female ghost of tom joad: asoiaf >> robb 3.0janie_tangerine on November 16th, 2011 11:08 am (UTC)
I know? GOSH I WANT TO SEE ALL THE THINGS WE DIDN'T SEE ROBB DO IN ACOK. I personally still feel robbed that he was in that book for ten pages or something. *glares at grrm* I'm not really at the point where I actually feel for Cersei - she's so not my thing - but at least in the show I -get- her, in the books I don't understand her point half of the time, so I'll go and say kudos to Lena Headley. XD

I KNOW. BRIENNE BRIENNE BRIENNE I NEED TO SEE YOU AND WRITE ODES TO YOUR AWESOMENESS. I also need the Theon/Asha like burning. (And I'm bracing for crying bitter tears whenever Theon's face is on screen because the Robb/Theon shipper in me will weep.) And Arya and Gendry too! (And Sam and Jon's love story! I WANT EVERYTHING.)
